I know i shouldn't write like this but I think Mugabe should be
deposed. Ridiculous farrago of a runoff election where only Mugabe
is the only person. This afternoon he told the West to go hang. Who
is going to depose this man? Yours John Hamer

An armed response from the West is exactly what Mugabe wants. His
world view is formed by a mixture of Marxism and syphilis. He won't
come off the pool table and if Whitey takes him off the pool table
then it BE WHITEY OPPRESSIN' him. Western lefties will overlook (like
they haven't already) the butchery and madness that has already taken
place and get back to the old hymnsheets.

Show us one, just one, example of any English lefty who is not appalled by
Mugabe. You imagine that a lefty literature of apologetics has sprouted but
the English left-right debate about Zimbabwe died down in the days when
Zimbabwe was still Rhodesia. The person who set up the arrangment under
which Mugabe took power in 1980 was Lord Salisbury, very much a rightie and
a Thatcher luminary and Churchill's son-in-law, who boasted about his deal
"I can pull rabbits out of a hat" The people who are beng myopic about
Mugabe are the populations of other African countries who like him because
he tells the West to "go hang." (I read this in the paper -- not the
Forward -- yesterday). But can you really blame them? They like African
"statesmen" who antagonize the West because they get virtually nothing of
the West's foreign aid handout and need it the most. This might change under
the next U.S. president.

And I'd like to see the last time anyone used the term "Whitey" who held
political opinions to the left of Pat Buchanan.

Read what I wrote, not what you think I wrote. I said that if the West
went into Zimbabwe to remove Robert Mugabe by force, a certain type of
left-wing pundit - think Gary Younge in the Guardian or John Pilger -
will immediately start bleating, as if the invasion to restore some
kind of justice was worse than the atrocities it was trying halt. We
have seen this before...

If it's good enough for Sly Stone it's good enough for me.

...and I might add that all the 'alternatives' and lefties I know get
terribly exercised - facebook groups, petitions, marches - about Burma
and Tibet. When it comes to Zimbabwe and various other African
atrocities they're a little more coy. I can only imagine this to be
the fall out from your PC education (the University of the W Left)
where Africa is a holy place, well beyond a white person's scope or
entitlement to criticise/analyse.
