Post subject: Some Observations and Questions
Archived from groups: alt>books>david-weber (more info?)

Things we know and think we know, plus some questions we would
like to have answers To

Rachel Mayhew has, as of the end of AAC, finished the end of her 1st
year at Saganami.

The loss of 600K personnel in the Battle of Manticore is going to
accerate promotions in both the RMN and GNS. We might expect that
Capt's Cardones, Terekhov, and Tremaine to be acheiving junior flag
rank. (both because of the now open slots and their superior
performance) Abigail Hearns did not expect to hold onto her brevet to
senior Lieutenant, but probably will now.

Mike Henke is in Talbott, presumably as CO or XO of Talbott Station,
Adm Khumalo, having probably won a promotion for his perhaps
unexpectedly gutsy actions in supporting Capt. Terekhov.

The government of Torch has probably accelerated any plans it had
for hit and run military actions against Manpower. And if Manticore
hands over some of it's capured RHS prizes, they will be able to
beg, buy,or steal the missiles for them from the Republic. And I
suspect they won't have to steal them.

How big exactly is the Andermani Empire? We are told that it was a 6
system empire at the death of Gustav I , and that the empire has
expanded slowly but surely ever since. 20 systems? 30? Plus whatever
their chunk of Silesia amounts to. Will the slap in the face wakeup
call that has been given by the Battle of Manticore push the Empire
into a complete industrial/economic rationalization such as Manticore
and Grayson have imposed on themselves?

What kind of evidence will it take to convince Queen Elizabeth of the
innocence of Haven in the assination of Adm. Webster and the attempted
regicide of Queen Berry? Along that line, will ONI's "interviews" with
POW Adm, Tourville be conducted with treecats in attendance? Was
Lester fully informed as to why Haven is trying to manipulate the
diplomatic environment militarily? If he was and the Queen and Adm.
Harrington and treecats interview him, would this convince Elizabeth?
Or this combined with some revelations provided by the Cachat/Zilwicki
excursion?

Is the government of Torch aware it has a wormhole? Surely if it does,
then they could borrow the Dr's Kare/Wix to map the loci and get
moving on discovering exactly what they have.

At last (2nd hand) report , the author intends 5 more books in CoS,5
more in SoS, and 5 more in the mainstream Honorverse. Given that the
13 released books spawned 4 short story collections, we might assume
that the next 15 will inspire at least 4 more collections.

We see mentioned in passing, but not really witnessed ourselves that
treecats are being integrated into the life of the Star Kingdom.,but
are they actually moving to Manticore and Gryphon and establishing
colonies?

The Grayson population, more or less stabilized at about 3 billion is
being allowed to expand due to the economic growth. Given that the
male female inbalance will slowly begin to stabilize thanks to Dr.
Harrington's genetic discoveries, will the population explode? They
already breed like rabbits, due to the high infant mortality rate
(witness the Mayhew's 8 children) Given prolong, other improvements to
the Grayson medical establishment and a high unchecked birthrate and
their population could be soaring

Has the Church of Humanity Unchained established itself on Manticore?
At the very least, chapels for the GNS personnel stationed groundside
on Manticore?

We can expect that when , the truth about Manpower/Mesa's involvement
in triggering the casus belli between Haven and the Alliance , is
finally accepted by both Haven and Manticore that Queen Elizabeth and
President Pritchard will be , to say the least, incandescently livid.
But can we also not assume that Protector Benjamin and Gustav XI,
given what we seem to have seen about their respective honor codes,
will be not far behind on the anger scale?

Colonel Nesbitt is obviously one of, if not the senior Mesan
mole/agent in Haven. Descroix was on Manticore before her departure
following the collapse of the High Ridge govt ( and her subsequent
"removal") , any guesses as to whom might still be embedded in the
Manticoran govt. ?

How soon will Raoul Alfred Alistair Harrington-Alexander be visiting
Grayson? Even Honor's express commands will probably not be enough to
keep her steaders from greeting him with a parade and the band. And
will he break the record for youngest adoptee by a treecat? Stephanie
Harrington and Honor both were adopted at about 13 ish, and that seems
to be the youngest age for an adoptee, Princess Adrianne also at 13?
maybe 14?

Isn't it about time that Honor inducts the LaFollette clan into a
formal adoption/alliance ala Clan Clinkscales? Andrew and Micah are
armsmen, Miranda,Jennifer, and Mistress Thorne are also in her
service. Not that she needs to buy their loyalty but it seems the kind
of formal gesture that would be appreciated by all of her Graysons

If her estate grew by 11 billion during the 2 years she was missing on
Hades, presumed dead, how much has it grown in the 5-6 yrs since then?
Certainly both of the main components of her fortune, Blackbird Yards
and Skydomes, have been doing booming business.

Has Helen tripped Paulo and beaten him to the ground yet? Go Girl !

Was Alistair McKeon married? It certainly was never mentioned anywhere
that I recall reading. Speaking of which, when do most people in a
prolong society marry and start having children? Rafe and Scotty
aren't married either, neither is Alice Truman, Nor do I recall
hearing that Willie Alexander was married . We know that Alfred and
Allison married right out of med school and had Honor not that long
afterwards (maybe 8-10 years after getting married) and that they had
gone another 50+ years intending to have another child but not doing
anything about it until having Faith and James. Sir Horace's exact age
is implied to be about 30-35 yrs older then Scotty, but I do not
believe ever stated and he married Sgt. Major Babcock when he was
maybe 60.

Speaking of marriage, how are Berry and Ruth going to meet any cute
guys ? Smile

How old is Berry's younger brother now? Does he still live with Anton
and Cathy? Or is he in residence on Torch?

ah well, these and countless other question to be answered as the
author wills.

Even if Lester was fully briefed on Giancola's shenanigans with the
diplomatic message traffic, Elizabeth will probably just assume that he
was lied to by his superiors about it.

The existence of the Congo wormhole was general knowledge.

There's no shortage of guys on Torch.

Nesbit is more likely a middleman with Mesan contacts.
The mind-control assasin drug was never shown to be approved for use
by Mesan Authoriteis it was shown to be used against Grosclaude that
time. (that does not mean that the MWW cannot make it so, just that he
did not as he wrote the book) That makes Nesbitt more likely to have a
contact that could get it, and replace it for less than what he or she
could get for fulfilling the contract. Or maybe some intermediate
management type felt that the attaboy potential blackmail of Giancola
was worth the risk of upper management being unhappy with them. As in
*very* unhappy with them and all the tools at Manpower's disposal to
express that disproval (and the upside of caste-like promotion if
correct)

And the rest are very good questions, most of which will probably be
resolved in the continuing series(s) presuming that the story arc is
fininshed.
