Long ago I thought Selene was the oldest mutant. I was reading some old
issues of the Silver Surfer and I noticed an Elder called the Obliterator
being known as a mutant. His powers seem to be that his body is only known
for preservation(hence his obsession of killing people) The man is about
1.5 billion years old. Does he have an X-factor gene? I know the
celestials do experiments on others planets, but a mutant born a billion
years ago seems very unlikely to me.

An Elder of the Universe? Like the Collector, Grandmaster, and the
rest? Other races can have mutants, but they're not human mutants.
Selene is the oldest of Earth's mutants. I'm not sure it really matters
what mutants exist in the greater universe since we rarely see that
cosmic view.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

He is an Elder of the Universe, since he killed off everyone of his own
race. You are right by saying there are mutants that are not from earth,
such as Fiz the skrull, and an old Silver Surfer villain called Overlord.
IIRC, Thanos was considered a mutant also, but he was an Eternal. What I
think is that some races with latent abilities manifest faster than
other, which could explain why the Obliterator is 1.5 billion years old
but I am not very sure.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I thought Apocalypse was the oldest mutant?

No. There were some attempts by Marvel to give that title to Apocalypse, but
his origin story places him in Ancient Egypt around 4000 years ago, whereas
Selene was active during the Hyborean Age of Marvel Earth (around 8000-10,000
years ago).

No, that's what he was billed as in the 90ies, but it was just another
case of editors not paying attention.
Apocalypse was born in ancient Egypt, don't ask me which epoch,
meaning he's a few millenia old. Selene is from the hyperborean age -
we know that because Kulan Gath knew her from that time - the forgoten
age of Conan and Red Sonja, which WAY precedes the Egyptian culture.
So she's older, but he has better PR.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

This title has nothing to do with his mutancy.

That was never true. His piddling 5000 years never compared to Selene's
age. Even so, any references to Apocalypse as the "first mutant" were
only in context of Earth humans.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Agree. I like Apocalypse,especially during his x-factor days, but I do
agree that he was a walking retcon during the 90's.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Selene's the kind of dame hunts down and kills anyone who
knows how old she really is.

Is Selene a Mutant? I mean, just because she hangs around with Mutants and
has powers doesn't make her one. I mean, the Hyborean Age had plenty of
mystical methods to gain powers.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
