This is a hard to find 1844 edition of "The Opal", which includes the
first publishing of Poe's "Morning on the Wissahiccon", otherwise
known as "The Elk". Published by J. C. Riker, illustrated by J. C.
Chapman.
I do not sell old books very often, but after consulting some book
dealers they said that it would be graded as in "Fair" condition. It's
in the original embossed and gilded binding, and all pages are still
intact, as are the cover and back. All of the tissue protectors are
there for the etchings; however there is foxing present, as well as a
general browning on many of the plates. The inside cover has some old
dealer notes and price in pencil. One of the inside pages has an
inscription from the original owner which has bled through to two
other pages, as well as a shadow showing on the facing page. Back
inside cover has another old price in pencil, and on another inside
back page has "August 14, 1844" inscribed in pencil.
A really hard to find old book, and a must for any Poe collector!
$165 including all US S/H/I
