Line 'em up Melody. I'm on virtual drinks only for the next week.

I had an appointment with the doctor to check if I needed any adjustment
on the treatment on my knee now the swellings gone down. Doctor thinks
it's just cartilage and fluid so it's just stay on the large pink horse
pills. The bit that's stuck me on the wagon is my right ring finger. It
was looking a bit red and puffy so I asked him to look at it while I was
there. Turns out the small bit where Mungo had caught me a while back
while playing with a catnip mouse had got infected and my finger was
nice and full of pus right along the edge of the nail bed. The only
thing to do is drain it so he whips out this knife that I'd swear has a
blade the size of something I'd use to cut lino and goes for it. Funny
enough it didn't hurt, until right near the end when he was finishing
cleaning out the edge of the nail but now it's bloody annoying every
time I try to get something out my pocket and I'm on antibiotics for a
week! What I get for teasing the cat I suppose.

Hellfire, what a woeful pest. Much sympathy.

I have a swollen knee meself (pulled the tendons behind it and wrenched the
hamstrings around generally, and it's playing hob with all the muscle in my
calf too, and bits clear down to the far side of the ankle, flexion, *what*
flexion?) so I am full of sympathy about the knee even before you got on to
the finger. Tell Mungo from me, wash more, you cat you! If he'd made a
proper job of cleaning his feet when he came in he wouldn't have tracked
mud into your nice clean house and into your nice clean finger.

Be better soon, you hear me? Can't have the handything unfit for duty, we
never know what those woodlice may eat next.

Ooooh, that sounds nasty. Similar thing happened to a daughter of mine

avoided that ( I hope).

And for those of us who are middle-aged, they don't aggrevate the hot
flashes. I'll have another, thanks. I actually had hubby mix me a double
scotch sour (made with the cheap stuff) when I got home from work. We were
having "severe" thunderstorms and I was doing about 25 miles per hour
forever. I was in the car 10 minutes earlier than usual; and got home about
10 minutes later than usual. Silly question time, why don't those medical
persons every stop before jabbing to ask if one would like something to take
the pain away?

Ouch! I think my mother did something similar to her big toe once,
after dropping a vacuum cleaner. Turned an interesting shade of green
after it'd been left for a bit... However, before a Licensed Medical
Practitioner got a look at it, a rather heavy dog stepped on it and
drained the pus for her. Messy, but effective.

Finally some of this thread hits my system. This is the first I've seen
of it outside Google.

Ouch indeed. I dropped a length of lead pipe on my toe when I was a
kid, my Dads fault for putting it in the same box as my skipping rope,
but that just went black and lost the nail. The dog definitely doesn't
sound like a recommended treatment for the condition though no matter
how effective it is. Hard on the carpet if nothing else...

Luckily, it was a tiled floor, so quite easy to clean. Quite a shock
when you came down the stairs and found a trail of blood leading into
the kitchen, though...

My rheumatalogist who doubles as my GP is rather concerned about pain. He
deals with a lot of people with fibromyalgia, which blends chronic pain,
joint problems and sleep problems as well as a few other things and he
understands that pain is cumulative and he's interested in helping you find
ways to cope. But he is only one among many who don't seem to understand
that pain is the body's way of saying, "Something is wrong, stop what you're
doing and correct this problem."

All too often pain is the body's way of saying "Something *has been* wrong,
nothing can be/now needs to be done to correct it, and stopping moving the
bit that hurts will mean it stiffens up and becomes damaged forever, along
with all the bits roiund it."

Sometimes it's saying: "you have been scalded slightly, but I have rushed
every available bit of everything to the scene, and now whereas the
original tissue damage was minimal and could have been repaired in a day,
because of my over-reaction your finger/hand/arm is going to hurt for three
weeks, then hurt all over again when the blister bursts, get infected, and
leave you with impaired function in that wrist plus a large scar..."

Pain is a truly crap system in some respects.
