Yes, there is a vug named U.S. Cummings in "Game-Players of Titan". (I just
finished reading it.) Now for another question: Is "E.B. Black" supposed to
be a joke based on the columnist "E.B. White" (the things you learn doing
crossword puzzles)?
"Nats" is obviously "Stan" spelled backwards ...
And the story also has a blatant error in continuity. In Chapter 10
(p. 108 in my Vintage edition), Garden has just made it back to Earth,
and describes his exit: "He had come out the back, out of the men's
washroom, minus his coat." The next-to-last sentence, three paragraphs
later, is "He felt at his coat; there it [his wallet] was." Both paragraphs
are on the _same page_ in my version. (BTW, a similar error shows up in
_Robinson Crusoe_.)

Amazing. I just read that page yesterday and noticed the mistake
myself - I'm assuming it was a deliberate error, surely a mistake like
that couldn't be missed by the publisher!?

'Max' the grumpy old car was the highlight of the whole book imho!!
