I have written before that I have liked the relationship of Emma Frost
and Scott Summers.

Saying that, I also admit I don't have a problem with Jean/Phoenix
coming back either.

The inherent problem with Jean Grey is that she is stuck in a stasis set
by Claremont and continued by later writers. Her character is almost
always written as if she is on the cusp of a noble sacrifice. Contrast
that with her character as written in X-Men First Class and you can
appreciate the difference.

I do realize that Phoenix is such a fan favourite and her relationship
with Scott created a seminal moment in Marvel history. I can appreciate
the editorial desire to keep the couples actions reminscent of their
most popular moment. It would be great if the writers could actually
add something new to the mix.

What I would find more intriguing is if Madelyn Pryor came back instead
of Jean Grey. Emma would be with Scott and Madelyn would be the
outsider. Then you would have a dramatic inversion of the two
characters; Emma the hero and Madelyn the villain.

Morrison didn't write her that way. If anything, he wrote her as if she
was finally living - right up to the point in which he killed her off. I
really do enjoy First Class Jean. That book is just great overall.

I'll pass. Maddie was great until she became a clone. Supposedly,
Claremont didn't initially plan for that to be the case. Once it
happened, I lost interest, particularly because she became a villain in
the process.

Morrison is mostly a very cold writer. He does get credit for making an
interesting love triangle although I do not think Jean's response to
Emma's encroachment was anything but abstract. There wasn't much
affection between Jean and Scott which could be understood but there
also wasn't any intimacy which I do not understand.

I think every character in X-history has been rehabilitated at one time
or another. She would be less offensive in many ways than Mystique or
Sabertooth. In my opinion.

Nice, because I liked Jean's character, but if she does come back and
Scott stays with Emma, it won't be the same. It will be like Spider-
Man is now, without Mary Jane.

Also, I didn't really like Cassandra Nova. The first story was good,
but then they kept using her in decreasingly good stories. I hope
she's a skrull.
