The crazy Basset bitch (only 16 months old) started acting very
non-normal two days ago.
We took her in to the vet yesterday. X-rays and blood work.
We got the blood work results this morning -- not good.
She may have gotten poisoned from something like anti-freeze -- kidney
failure.
We're on our way back to the vet's for more work and treatment(?).
Thanks.

Many thanks for the vibes!
Not all the blood work results are back yet, but it *seems* to look
like she has Addison's Disease. Which mimics renal failure. Which
(if this *is* what the problem is) is treatable.
She's improved enough (with a day of IV's and two shots of steroids)
that they let her come home for the night.
Back to the vet tomorrow at 7:20 AM for more IV's, etc. And,
hopefully, final lab results before noon.
A lifetime of meds and watching her diet is much better than a young
dog dead of kidney failure.

The poor thing, how horrible! Both you and she have my prayers.

From another list:
"Many of you know Vicki Brown, who has been with the list since its
inception. For those who have not had the pleasure, Vicki is a woman of
wit, heart, and exuberance; kind and with an appreciation of the darker
edge of irony. I feel very fortunate to have known her.
Vicki is back in the hospital, and is apparently not expected to return
to us. Her cancer, far from being excised, has spread and the second
round of chemo has not been sufficient to turn the tide.
Those who wish to send cards may contact Nina Mangan at

for a mailing address.
In the meantime, prayers, candles, and good thoughts, please.
Sharon and Steve"
I know she was in and out here, and I thought people might care to know.

I don't remember any Vicki Brown being a regular. Do you remember any
more about her?
We had a vicki who was one of the early ones. She's mentioned in the
FAQs, I believe. But, she's not Vicki Brown. And she's not
hospitalized with cancer.

Sadly, I can't do either. My bed is in the middle of the room
and I am a restless sleeper. (Though there was the morning I woke up
pinned between both dogs to the point I had a tough time getting out
of bed.)

I have had my grandson knock me out of bed. It is amazing how a less
than one year old is made up entirely of knees and elbows, eight of each
I would believe.
