I just got the new Primus EP "Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People"
and there's a song on there called "My Friend Fats." It's about
Horselover Fats... here are the lyrics. Pretty great song, especially if
you've read Valis.

MY FRIEND FATS
My friend Fats, he's a hell of a guy.
Let me tell you why. He's the epitome of neighborly.
My friend Fats, he's a hell of a guy.
Let me tell y'all why. He drips personality.
My friend Fats, he's a heck of a joe.
You should watch him go, bopping in the band shine with a bota bag of
fried wine.
My friend Fats, he's a jovial sort. When he's holding court, the
anecdotes go round and the lager goes down.
My friend Fats, he's a hell of a guy.
And just as long as he's high he has no anxiety about his chemical
dependencies.
Fats has no concerns about the candle that burns at both ends
simultaneous, both ends simultaneous.
My friend Fats, he's a hell of a guy. Let me tell y'all why.
He's not much for punctuality, but heck on debauchery.
Fats, he's a hell of a man, can't y'all understand. Him taunting his
mortality, he's unnerved by sobriety.

After typing this all out, I realize that it's not as blatantly about
Horselover as I first thought, but I still think it's about HF. Way to
go Les! Anyone care to comment?

um, the name in valis is horselover fat, right? (not fats)
might be a pkd reference, i'm not sure. didn't even occur to me when i saw
primus on the new tour, but liked the song. then again, i wouldn't put it past
him. les wrote a song about john lilly, which came out on the oysterhead record
a few days before lilly died (which is a weird synchronicity)

rumour has it that les has done his share... could be "my friend fats" is a
metaphor for his own inner dope fiend

Rumor?! It's the truth! "Over the Electric Grapevine"'s all about Les
and his friend Adam's LSD trip. Not to mention Frizzle Fry.
