Post subject: Quote from a Vonnegut book -- need help finding out which book.
Archived from groups: alt>books>kurt-vonnegut (more info?)

Hi there,

I recently read a Vonnegut quote on a weblog and have no idea which
book it is from, but am intrigued by the quote.

It is as follows:
----------------
"People think we're in love," I said to her on a walk one day.

And she said "They're right."

"You know what I mean," I said.

"What do you think love is anyway?" she said.

"I guess I don't know," I said.

"You know the best part--" she said, "walking around like this and
feeling good about everything. If you missed the rest of it, I
certainly wouldn't cry for you."
------------

Apparently the setting is walking to an Art Museum in Manhattan. The
most likely book would be Bluebeard I presume or perhaps Slapstick.
Does anybody know for sure? I've read Breakfast of Champions, God
Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, SH5 and Welcome to the Monkey House and I'm
eager to read more Vonnegut and I'm interested in reading whichever
book the quote is from.

Thanks!
Kevin

I'm guessing it's from the short story, "Long Walk to Forever" from "Welcome to
the Monkey House."

That's the first thing I thought of too, but then I remembered that "Long
Walk" isn't written in the first person, and it doesn't involve anything
having to do with an art museum.

Yeah, I thought it sounded very Bluebeard-ish myself.
