Okay, confession time. I just finished reading Forbidden Magic and was able
to pick up this book without any delay, and that is the way I prefer to read
books in a series. I hate having to wait for the next installment.
At the end of Forbidden Magic Silver Ashcroft has been banished from the San
Francisco D'Anu coven of Witches; she has watched her mother die at the
hands of Fomorii; learned of her partial Elvin heritage; found a lover among
the D'Danann warriors who came to her aid; and discovered that a number of D
'Anu Witches supported her use of gray magic and have left the coven in
support of her work. She went back to her father in Salem, Massachusetts,
but found herself drawn back to San Francisco and the work which awaits her
there.
This book starts be explaining part of the events leading up to the
preceding story. Until now we have only had hints and suggestions of what
caused Silver's sister (Copper) to disappear from her life.
Once more, I have to advise readers that this book is not for the prudish
reader. It is an erotic romance and does not mince words. For all of that,
there is plenty of action on a non-erotic nature.
The story, this time around, is more centered on Copper and on her
relationship with her D'Danann warrior (Tiernan) who has his own personal
problems to be dealt with. It is interesting to see the interplay between
the primary characters developing.
This is the second book in a series which is projected to continue for a
while. The third book in the series is scheduled to be released in 2007 and
I must admit that I am not looking forward to having to wait for its
appearance (I hate waiting).
The erotic content of this book is a bit less, though no less intense, than
in the precedi9ng volume. The story-line is taking some interesting turns,
with more allies coming in on both sides of the conflict.
I am eagerly awaiting each upcoming volume in this series. Although Ms.
McCray is not a Witch (and she occasionally slips up in her presentation of
magic and Witch beliefs), she is writing a series which is definitely
Pagan-friendly. As I said earlier, however, this is definitely an ADULT
series. It is not for younger readers, and it is not for prudes.
