I thought I read soewhere that there was going to be a new addition of
ON THE ROAD, with material that was not in the original published
version. If so, when is thia due?
Also, whatever became of the writings that Kerouac referred to as
SECRET MULLINGS ABOUT BILL, which were his obversations on WIlliam
Burrough?. I may be off on the title but it's as close as I can get.
Thanks. >> Stay informed about: ON THE ROAD (new addition) |

In his letters of the mid-1950s, Kerouac mentioned plans to write a book
called "Visions of Bill," but there is no evidence that he ever began it.

Hello everyone. I'm from Greece and my English is not what you can call
fluent, so I have only read ON THE ROAD, such as any other Beat texts,
from a translation. anyway, I would like to ask: does City Lights, the
publishing company founded by Ferlinghetti in San Francisco, still
exist?
Are there any other companies publishing Beat authors? >> Stay informed about: ON THE ROAD (new addition) |

Secret Mullings About Bill exists at the NYPL as a 9-page lighty
corrected typescript with the title written in Kerouac's hand.
Visions of Bill, written in March 1957, is nothing more than a 2-page
holograph written when Burroughs was in Tangier. Also at NYPL. >> Stay informed about: ON THE ROAD (new addition) |

Thanks Paul. Can these writings be easily viewed? I remember going to
the rare manuscript room at the NYPL and I was given the 3rd degree. It
was almost like customs at the airport when you're flying abroad.
Gracias

With good cause, everything in that room and its adjoining
climate-controlled storage must be worth somewhere in the tens of
millions (Kerouac archive itself cost something like $3,500,000.00.
There are Thoreau's writings on fruit and parts of Walden, Dicken's
first editions in glass cases, Nabokov, Whitman, Joyce, dozens of 17th
(maybe earlier) through 20th century writers, most recently Burroughs .
.. .
The Kerouac archive, extensive as it is, isnt truly complete . . . for
example the Dr. Sax material can't be found there, it may still be in
private ownership.
Like any rare book and manuscript collection, you would need a good
scholarly reason for being there. >> Stay informed about: ON THE ROAD (new addition) |

I had went there to read a Whitman manuscript and I was asked if what
my research credentials were. From what I recall being a ":Whitman
fan" did not suffice. It's a wonder if the short "Mullings" etc stuff
would ever be published.
Thanks.

Paul, by the way, did you get to read that short Kerouac manuscript??
If so, can you give us an insight into it?
Thanks again.

which one are you referring to?
The extent of my archive research at the Berg this summer had to do
with notebooks and journals from 1940-1951. All of this will be used
for two future books, one will be out fall 2007, the other in 2009. >> Stay informed about: ON THE ROAD (new addition) |
