Sorry, what's the point of calling Tom Cruise a "midget"? Plenty of
other things to call the man but why "midget"?

And why is it protesting "against the US" to call Tom Cruise names? I'm
a patriotic American myself and if you insulted the Gettysburg Address
I'd be down on you like a ton of souvenir Liberty Bells but I don't feel
protective about Mr. Top Gun. He can look after himself.

BTW I ran into the (well, a) whole text of the Gettysburg Address on a
pillar in City Hall yesterday (no, not literally). It's there courtesy
of the Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic in 1928, and it's a damn
inspiring piece of writing. (One of the versions is here at
<http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/gadd/gatr2.html>.) It has nothing to do
with Tom Cruise.

Seriously, how tall is he?

And wotzis about Margaret Thatcher desecrating the Gettysburg Address? Is this
like Shatner doing "Mr. Tambourine Man"?

Nothing campares to Shatner's dramatic reading of "Rocket Man" live on
television. One of the most frightening things I've ever seen. What was
that Pascal said about the terror of infinite spaces? It was like that.

BTW, Tom Cruise is a very good actor.

'If ya start me up...' Jagger/Richards, 70s

I reckon about 5ft 1inch. If he's looking for more crappy tv to film
projects like Mission Impossible, why doesn't he do 'Inch High Private Eye'?

Shatner doing Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds is the one to get you
headbutting the wall with a smile. Maggie recorded a record about ten years
ago of great political speeches and the Gettysburg Address was one of 'em.
She fucking murdered it and, if I recall right, it was set against a
backgound of battle noises or martial music or both. I remember catching a
bit on the radio. I think if you heard it you'd need to see a doctor shortly
afterwards.... anyone else remember it?

Except, I suppose, that in his latest movie, Cruise plays (I seem to remember
reading) a veteran of Gettysburg who goes to Japan to teach military stuff.

And yes, the Gettysburg Address is a fine speech. Lincoln's second inaugural
speech, from the final days of the war, is also in that class, and worthy of
frequent rereading. I'm not a believer, but this passage gives me chills:

"Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may
speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue until all the wealth
piled by the bondsman's [slave's] two hundred and fifty years of unrequited
toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be
paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so
still it must be said 'the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous
altogether.'"

Such a lame retort so *early* in the year Mab! I don't know whther you're
being ingenuous, disingenuous or what f*cking genuous. On the other hand it
is a classic example, for scholars of the future, of an abgo/Bridegam
retort.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Now Martha how in the name of Robert Mapplethorpe is that weird? 1, Dylan
