Some terrible plot that had Captain Britain lost in time and having
Rachel take his place. This might not have been so bad had Brian not
returned as *Britannic* with a rather hideous costume.

A few questions of mine own:

1) If Kitty is in Astonishing, then where will Rachel be? Are the
writers/books sharing Kitty?

2) Is it actually legal for Kitty to be an instructor at Xaviers?
What's Ray's position there?

3) Are Rachel's memories still messed up, or has that been resolved?
What was the point to screwing up her head, anyway?

4) Does Rachel now have nothing to do with the Phoenix Force? If not,
then why does she still manifest a Phoenix symbol on her face when
using her powers? Did Morrison actually redefine what the Phoenix
Force is/was?

5) Am I the only one who thinks Claremont wants Kitty and Ray to be an
item? I was picking up on these vibes back in Excalibur, and the hints
seem even stronger now. Though Marvel is long past the days when
homosexuality could only be hinted at, Claremont may still be stuck in
that way of thinking. Is Kitty a big enough character that the
Powers-That-Be would object to her "experimenting"? Hopefully,
Claremont/Whedon will run with this...hey, they could even bring in
Karma and make a triangle of it!^_^

Presumably so, though the point hasn't yet been addressed in print
(presumably because Astonishing #1 hasn't shipped yet).

Rachel returned in CABLE #84-86, having been stranded in a far future
timeline with a villain named Gaunt. This apparently replaced the
Askani version of her history after that timeline was averted (when
Apocalypse was prevented from harnessing the Twelve's powers).

Got lost in time while trying to rescue Captain Britain from the
timestream. Awful story. Best not to think about it.

Yes.

Kitty disappeared from the X-Men almost immediately after Chris
Claremont took over the books with the Revolution titles. She was
supposed to be caught up in a subplot somewhere, but they never got
around to resolving it. She turned up again very shortly before the
Morrison/Casey runs started, at which point she officially quit.

From the what...? If you mean the Neo thing, she was wearing Neo armour
and survived the fall to earth, after which she apparently decided not
to bother getting in touch with the X-Men.

Rachel is in Uncanny. Kitty will probably be in the sole custody of
Whedon.

I'm sure Kitty is as certified as Scott. She's definately smart enough.
Still, I don't think Kitty will be instructing much. Rachel is a
"marshal" with Storm's XSE.

We will have to wait on Claremont for those answers. The point was that
writers enjoy putting their own spin on characters.

Some think she still has a connection, some think she doesn't. Claremont
has said that, as far as he's concerned, the Phoenix Force is up for
grabs, with Ray as the front-runner for the fire-bird.

I think he simply shows them as good friends. I've never considered Kitty
or Ray to be headed in that direction. I don't see a need to change the
sexuality of either character. Both have been established as
heterosexual.

Depends what she's teaching. And really, so long as she follows the Ney York
State mandated curriculum and the kids do well on their SATs, who cares? The
bureaucrats wouldn't.

You are not the only one- there's been an awful lot of subtext in
Claremont's Kitty stories of late. And as to Whedon, from the few previews
of Astonishing I've managed to find, he seems to be writing Kitty a lot like
Willow (of BTVS fame) and I think it's obvious what parallels could be drawn
there. Personally, I think that if they follow that route (and do it
sensitively and intelligently) then I have no objection. I also think that
Kitty and Rachel make a better couple than Kitty and X'ian. There's more
shared history and past closeness between them, not to mention all the fun
psychological angst Rachel would have to deal with if she falls in love with
the counterpart of the woman who was esentially a second mother figure to
her in her own timeline. @_@

Rachel is in Uncanny. Only Wolverine is being shared. (At least, I
think he's in Astonishing and Uncanny.)

In New York State she'd require certification. However, do we know how
far she got in college? If she has a Bachelor's degree, I think she
could gain a temporary certification with a few ed courses until she got
her masters's in education.

I think Davis resolved it long ago in Excalibur. That said, she
apparently has memories of a timeline that she no longer went to. I
guess there's just no hope for her.

I guess we'll have to see. I don't think Morrison did anything that has
to affect how other writers use the PF.

The "Powers-That-Be" object. The New Mutants/New X-Men writers wanted
Kitty to have some "experimentation" with Karma, but they weren't

I doubt it. Given the close-knit feel of the reload, I'm sure we

first storylines in Uncanny.

Not really. He did a lot of building on what was already written about the
Phoenix Force, but I wouldn't say he redefined it. Although, he pretty much
drove the point home that the Phoenix never dies.

Rachel is in Uncanny. And no.

As matters presently stand, the Uncanny team haven't actually returned
to the Mansion. (In issue #444, they're clearly described as visitors.)

I would be rather surprised if Kitty - who doesn't have a degree and has
done no teacher training - was legally qualified to teach. But you'd
have to ask somebody who knows about education law in the state of New
York.

All interference with Rachel's mind - whether by Phoenix, Ahab or Mojo -
was cured during the Alan Davis run.

The point of erasing her memories in Excalibur Special Edition #1 was
simply to parallel what Mojo did to Longshot in his own miniseries.
