Question about Rachel - I haven't been reading the Xbooks for a while. Is this the same Rachel who was in best freidns with Kitty etc. Or is she a version of Rachel taken from earlier in her life. In the latest issue of Uncanny she seems less mature..

Rachel Summers - Is it me or was Wolverine giving off kind of a paternal vibe in Uncanny #447. THere are only a few reasons I could think of for this 1) He feels bad for attacking her (trying to actually kill) in Uncanny 208 or 209, and is trying to make up for it 2)..

Rachel grew hair? - I guess being a she could probably do something about her hair, but it's just weird seeing rachel that way. I guess with storm, one could pose the same argument, but I always liked the longer hair on storm so I don't really want to..

Rachel and Dark Phoenix - I was thinking today about how many readers reacted to the original Dark Phoenix storyline by pointing out that like Thor and Professor X never went crazy with their power (the being that Jean did because she was a woman); Marvel..

Rachel Summers (Spoilers) - Possible spoilers I have a question. Has Girl always been shown as such an average telepath before? She's getting owned left and right like a two dollar whore. Yeah, I know, I know, she actually used to be a hound for..

Originally, the fractured memory appeared after she'd been kidnapped
by Spiral and Mojo in #209. It was Claremont's way of keeping
Excalibur and the US-based X-Men apart. Later, Alan Davis retconned
it into that her memory had been fractured from the point of her
timejump to the present, and his retconned reason was the Phoenix
wanting to give Rachel a new start. The fractured memory plot was
finally finished off in the excellent Days of Futures Yet To Come
storyline in the mid 60's of Excalibur..

As a telepath I'm sure you can pick any symbol to be your "totem"
symbol. Rachel has connections to the Phoenix. Why not a Phoenix?

I've always thought that Claremont wanted to depict many gradations of
love, respect and intimacy in his comics, moreso than you would find
in everyday thinking, let alone in "four-colour" strips. I admire
that. I don't think there was every any intention for Kitty, Rachel,
Storm etc to be labelled one thing or another.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Actually, according to the old "Salem Centurion" page in the 'Generation X
Collectors Preview', his areas of study when a student were "Political
Science and Communication", so he might be teaching either of those.

He also taught seminars in "Thermodynamics" and "Grace under Pressure - The

Also, wasn't there something about his powers that gave him a knack
for spatial geometry (all those precision-reflected optic blasts)? I
would think a course in this area would be right up his alley. Then
again, having an intuitive understanding of something doesn't
necessarily mean you can convey it to others. Perhaps he was wise in
just sticking with the political science. Smile

The funny thing about that one is that none of the X-Men (Banshee aside)
ever taught at the Massachusetts Academy.

Those sound more like college level courses. No special certification
for that type of teacher. And Xavier's could easily claim _anything_
outside of NY requirements weren't part of the high school curriculum.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I think the bartending position solidifies it. In fact, others have
pointed out in the past that she would have to be 21 for that job.
Since she's about a year younger than Cannonball, I think that age is
about right.

It's not actually Xavier's school at this point. It was restarted by
Scott and Emma. That said, Xavier _would_ give a shit if he wanted to
make sure the school was able to remain a school.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Not so funny, really. I've taken plenty of different courses, but I've only
taught
a couple subjects, and most people don't teach anything.

Several of them were guest lecturers:
Peter Rasputin/Art
Bobby Drake/Accounting-Finance
Logan/Martial Arts ?

Plenty of room for others to have done so off-panel<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Didn't Iceman and Colossus (art) guest-lecture too?

I think, depending on the state, you can _serve_ at 18, but can't actually
drink until 21.

Weird Americans.... Though in the UK you can marry at 16, but not get a
drink to ceelebrate until you're 18, so go figure....<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

There was a time in Ireland where you could get married at 16, but couldn't
buy contraceptives (including condoms) until 18 - by there was a time, I do
mean early 90s, not 40s!

That said, I think there is something in the law in the UK that you can drink
wine and beer with a meal from 16. You just can't buy it.

If Kitty is teaching a computer science course, she might need a license,
but what if she is teaching a class on the use of mutant powers as an
'expert' or 'specialist'? Would you need certification for that? Also, do
private schools which receive no public funds need certified teachers?

Now that Xavier's is a full school, I think it would great if Stevie was the
full-time dance teacher. They need more regular humans working on the
staff.

In NJ at least, private schools have wiggle room legally with regards
to teacher certification.

More than dance, Stevie Hunter was in charge of full physical
conditioning last time she was on staff (circa Xtinction Agenda). Tom
Corsi should show up as well.

Again, the Preview lists many such seminars and guest lecturers.

Energy Conversion - Bishop and Gambit
Gravity and Magnetis - Polaris (What, not geology?)
Telepathic conditioning - Emma, Charles, Jean and Betsy
Teleportation and spatial displacement - Kurt and Kityy
International Culture and History - Charles, Forge, Storm, Kurt
