Ok, I am not through with the book, but I have to write a little something
right now.

First of all Ray, I have had a lot of trouble getting my work done due to
this book. This one has really been a page turner, right in the same vein
as Darkness at Sethanon. Ok, Ch. 20 - Decisions. Oh man! I was just
enthralled with the whole thing and was left a little exhausted at the end.
I felt like slumping down like Pug and Miranda and I could almost hear the
splat of the half demon hitting the floor. I'll have more to write on the
entire book when I am done.

This one was very reminiscent of DaS, even ending in about the same spot. I
did not expect the Esterbrook scene to wrap up the way it did. I thought
for sure Karli was going to die and Roo eventually marry Helen. I am very
pleased with the way it turned out. I also thought the way Duke James and
Gamina left the stage was very fulfilling. I did have one question though
about William. I did not fully understand why the highest ranking and
arguably the best tactician, was basically on the front lines of the
conflict. He went out heroically, but why was he there at all? With Duke
James, I understood. He was blowing up his city and he had no intension of
leaving. But William, it seems to me, should have been with the Prince at
the fallback. Anyway, I am working on Shards right now and it is already a
very satisfying book.

William was the commander of all the armies of the west, and sort of
"went down with the ship." What was left of the western army dug in at
Nightmare Ridge with the help of the armies of the east.

Best, R.E.F.
