I know they explained why it went away, but it's a lousy explanation.
She spent way more time in the US in New Mutants and X-factor than she
would've in the time since Moira died.

And she would have lost what was initially written as a severely OTT accent
back then. Seriously, Highland Scots in the US? She'd have gotten verra pish'd
aff with people going "huh?" the whole time.

Agreed. I can understand if she changed her vocabulary, but losing the
accent completely because she "grew up" is just plain stupid. I can buy
into the writers not believing they could credibly write a Scottish
accent, but if that's the case, just don't write it. Don't say it's not
there at all.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I always took the accent to be part and parcel of all the other changes.
She's deliberately set out to reinvent herself differently from how she
always was (possibly because she's lost some major aspects to her
identity... her powers, and her mother figure), and that includes
suppressing the accent, by choice (she probably could slip into it at
will, and I'd love to see something where in a time of stress she falls
back into it). She's specifically said 'I've changed' as though that
should explain the lack of an accent, not 'I've grown up'. To me that
implies some decision there.

Now, I'd personally prefer her to be closer to the old Rahne too, but if
that's the way the writers are going with it, that she's reinvented
herself, then it makes perfect sense to me. I just hope the reinvention
doesn't permanently take and she slides back somewhere close to her normal
self.

It looks to me that it's a deliberate over-reaction. "This is how
I was in the past, but I was hurt terribly; now, I'm going to do the exact
opposite." Part of this shows in the deliberate, in-your-face edginess.
And I think it's a well-controlled characterization; see their
characterization of Sofia, which is a spot on portryal of forced
cheerfulness that masks a deep, resentment (as pointed out in the recent
Parent's Day issue)(this would have been better presented with a better
penciller in the first four issues, where the writers' subtleties in
characterization were totally sabotaged by the wooden expressions of the
penciller).

Only when she stops hurting inside and resolved her own issues.

I think the idea is that she's deliberately suppressing it.

Any inheritance Rahne received from Moira has obviously been used on
some breast implants.
I can get behind the idea of Rahne rebelling, however I shudder to
think that we will simply be left with another tarted up, female
character where we used to have a multidimensional one.
Warren Ellis's flashforward to shaved head punker Rahne in Excalibur
would have been a nice incarnation to see here.
Perhaps there are issues with faith that can be dealt with as well.
Theres potential aplenty here, Moira's will being a huge one, the
vendetta with Mystique etc, but the window dressing concerns me that
it will just be a cursory explanation for a cosmetic change.

And I miss Rahne having short hair because it wouldn't grow too.

Agreed. Especially interesting given that Paige Guthrie decided to do the
same thing in Generation X. It's not like we haven't seen people reinvent
themselves before.

That's been gone for a while. She had long hair in X-Factor and
Excalibur, or she at least let the fur of her wolf form grow out and
styled it in a way it looked long. But if the hair was because of her
wolf form then if her powers are gone it makes sense it could grow.
As for the implants, that was another thing that changed a while ago.
I remember a fanfic where Doug Ramsey got to look in on his friends
and commented that she'd grown a lot and in all the right places,
since he'd died.

Wasn't there some suggestion that Rahne's feelings about herself were
part of the reason why her hair wouldn't grow? This is what I thought
was said in the issues of New Mutants when she and Roberto gained the
powers of Cloak and Dagger.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Thought weirdly she didn't go to full wolf mode for years. From the end of
The Extinction Agenda to... well, just when she lost her powers, she never
became a full wolf, always a wolfgirl.

I thought it was down to self perception affecting her powers a bit.

Yeah, the transition in appearance always felt like it was a bad
reason to go from having a visually distinctive non-tarted up female
character and change her to a sexed up long haired version
indistinguishable from several other sexy redheads. The writing, in
most cases, salvaged the change but on some level I've always felt the
visual change took more away than it contributed.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
