I'm aghast, aghast I tell you. This is the first "I've got a
book report due and need help in a hurry" request that I have
seen in so long that I've forgotten when the last one was -
certainly ore or two or more years, not months ago.
Which appears to mean that IA may have dropped out of what little
of SF is included in HS lit courses.
[If it is any consolation, the corresponding group for another of
the "Big Three" Grand Masters, alt.fan.heinlein, has seen the
same dearth of homework help plaints.

: Can anybody give some information about asimov's book " Rain Rain Go

It's a novel about the technology of weather manipulation, such as seeding
clouds to force precipitaion, using the Solar Power Satellites (in the
future posited by Asimov, the earth gets its energy from solar power
collected by a string of satellites that transmit the energy to collecting
stations on earth) to heat the atmosphere in certain areas, changing the
pressure and hence the wind directions, and so on. The main conflict is
between a government bureaucrat named A.F. Schoendienst (who complains on
more than one occasion that he can't get to second base with his secretary),
who feels that such manipulation will cause all kinds of international
repercussions, and could be a Very Bad Thing if it fell into the Wrong Hands
(e.g. Bad Guys could create droughts in countries they didn't like) and
the scientist-hero named Wright who believes that technology can only
improve life. Matters come to a head when a Category 5 hurricane threatens
Washington, D.C., and Wright and his crew defy government orders in order
to divert it, after which Schoendienst realizes his error, Wright understands
the two-edged sword that his technology has brought to the world, and
everyone lives (at least temporarily) happily ever after.
Hope this helps!

Schondeinst, with the double dot over the o, and e before i as in most
deutsch names.

Take it up with Asimov. "Schoendienst" is how he spells it in the story
(for obvious reasons). I will point out that "oe" is equivalent to
"o-umlaut," and that the "dienst" part of the name obviously derives
from the German verb "dienen," however, so it looks like Asimov wasn't
too far off.

OK, I'll concede your point, at least in the original version. Perhaps
I have a later edition.
You state that Mr Schoendienst:
"(who complains on more than one occasion that he can't get to second
base with his secretary)"
Well, his secretary, Margaret Hamilton West, is the possible "leak" to
the "Bad Guys" and she has to place herself above suspicion by acting
the prude. That is a very interesting subplot in the book. (Ooops, I
may be giving too much away here) >> Stay informed about: Rain rain, go away |

Well no, not really, since you didn't disclose that Mr. "Red" Schoendienst
was known in his career as being something of the kind of guy who plays
the field.
