But it has been shown to work just fine in non-visual fiction a while
ago already... "isohan se Iita on" ... oh, wait, no one's probably
translated _that_ into English either?

In any case, data point: my wife's noticeably taller than I am and I
don't see any problems there.

There are guys that lust after Amazons as in females who look like male body
builders.

HH is more than a tad taller than most men. Her build doesn't seem to rub it
in the way a she hulk would. I guess a build like a dancer rather than a
body builder is attractive in tall women.

The thing is when people get bigger you have to change the build or the body
has problems. Joint failure and injury are norms for over sized people.
Agility get flushed.

I picture here as built the way Gabriella Reece is. She's the same
height as HH, and likely in the top 1% of physical capability for
women. That is one beautifully built woman (IMO).But then, I vastly
prefer the build of an athlete over the current stick girl fad. Also -
there's something to be said for women who are as tall as you Smile

My dad an I had this conversation about the limits of the human body
structure. We were talking about the amazing physical capabilities of
people like Lebron James and folks like him - big, strong, fast and
above all agile. The size at which you see all those traits has steadily
increased over the last 200 years. The question we asked is: How much
larger can these guys get and still maintain that kind of all around
performance and not suffer really early failure in the knees (primarily)
and other joints.

At 6'3", 210lbs and after 25 years of organized ball my knees were
already failing a bit before I had one fail catastrophically (IE -
torn ligaments and a massive chunk ripped out of the meniscus). I
have trouble imagining going another 5-8 years (I was 31 when it
happened) with far greater stresses (heavier, way more hours of
pounding up and down the court) the way pro ball players do.

Well, you DO hear about those guys getting knee surgeries all the time,
and they probably have doctors check on that sort of thing more
regularly than most people do.

Well, _that_ is another interesting thing. It does seem that joint
strength is _quite_ variable. Certain families have a tendency for
oversized joints, and that helps a bit.

Although it certainy doesn't have any _aesthetic_ advantages, rather the
opposite.

(And then some doctor or another takes it as an early warning sign of
arthritis...)

You hear of spry senior citizens. They aren't in that size range.

And if you do some checking the fake joints are only good for a few years
and the less you weigh the better.

They are most certainly *not* fake joints. Artificial joints, but even though
manufactured they are joints, with all the functions thereof (within the
differences of life cycle that nonorganics are differentiated by)

She was floating in Nike's admirals gym at Hancock (The Short
Victorious War).

"Honor Harrington floated on her back, one toe hooked under a rung of
the pool's ladder to hold her in place, and let welcome relaxation
soak through her" (Chapter 10)

And "The water in it formed part of the battlecruiser's consumables
storage system" (Chapter 7) so is likely to be fresh water!

I call them fake because the current thinking is to copy human joints. They
aren't the real thing and thus I call them fakes. Not sure this is the best
design for long term wear but putting in (fake) copies is the easiest way to
go.

Problem is you seriously mess the person up every time you go in. We need
some way to get people back on their feet faster or resurface the joints
with out putting the person through major rehab.

Well, "Fake" carries with it negative connotations that the joints in
question may or may not deserve. At the very least, it sounds like the
recipient of such things has been shammed, which probably isn't the
case, given how much functionality he would have had WITHOUT the
replacement part.

"Synthetic" or "Artificial" both probably work, but might reek of
beurocratese for some folks.

I agree they work and are a marvelous improvement over the alternative but
they are a very sorry imitation of the real thing.
