I really enjoy the 'condensed' books by Reader's Digest. They take
out the unnecessary boring parts and there are stories by a lot of
different authors. They can be found at all flea marts really cheap
too........Shirley

For an opposing view point, I see the RD's Condensed Books to be a
paradigm of the dumbing down of America. The problem with abridging
books is that they convert whatever claims the work had to something of
value to being nothing more than a trivial entertainment. Now there's
nothing wrong with trivial entertainment but it's certainly not
literature. If you want to read short stories, there are consideraly
better sources than RD. If all you want is a plot, watch a movie.

All the boring parts? Why not just burn the entire book. If you think
about it, how can they cut anything out and not change connecting bits?
Of course that would be rewriting the book, and we can't have that!
