I recently acquired a copy of the Grosset & Dunlap reprint of Felix Salten's
Bambi with dust jacket from about 65 years ago.
What makes it worthy of note are two things:
1. It was translated (in about 1928) by, of all people, Whittaker Chambers,
later of HUAC fame for storing microfilm in a pumpkin in a field for Richard
Nixon in connection with the Alger Hiss case.
2. There is a foreword by John Galsworthy, who ends his short comments with "I
particularly recommend it to sportsmen."
