If the title is about Xavier rebuilding Genosha as a mutant homeland,
wouldnt reviving the title "X-NATION" have been more appropriate?

And since Kordey is off the project, reteam Claremont and Larocca.
Larocca can do wonders when allowed to cut loose on designing a
culture (the best part of his Namor run) and has a proven history with
Claremont.

Of course. But I have a feeling that nobody at Marvel wants to revisit 2099
in any way whatsoever these days. I think they consider it dead, buried,
and jettisoned, and would rather concentrate on revitalizing core
continuity names and titles.

Please don't. Both can be good, but each of them produced some of the worst
stuff of their career when they were working together.

I enjoyed the Claremont/Larroca run on Xtreme. Salvador's Excalibur work
was worse than his recent stuff.

The head of the English department asked me, "Do you read any crap?"
And I said, no, in that insufferable high school manner, no doubt.
And he said, "You need to read more crap."
The point was to read more for entertainment and for fun.

Has an artist for Excalibur been announced yet?

You know, the idea of Xavier rebuilding a mutant homeland is actually
an interesting idea, the more I think about it, though I don't know if
Claremont has the ability to do anything really interesting with the
political/social possibilities of the concept. He seems to excel at
superhero soap opera, so that's what I expect the series will be
about.

Yes. Aaron Lopresti. Which is odd since h and Kordey have a lot of
similarities in style.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Lopresti is kind of styleless and generic. His work in Captain Marvel
recently, which seems to be shot from pencils, was a step up but he
still doesnt create anything that is really visually striking.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I can't see how Larocca's art suffered during the most recent
collaboration with Claremont on XXM. Can you elaborate?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Yes. Since Excalibur is a British concept, it doesn't seem to have much
to do with Genosha, unless Xavier is somehow crowning himself King of
Genosha.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

My guess is that it is a play on "reforging" with the country taking
on the metaphor of the sword.
I can also see where they would convert the X-Corporation Offices into

Claremont gave an answer to this very problem, that pretty much equated the
entire X-Men concept with the Round Table mythos. Alas, I cannot find the
original quote.

Larroca's storytelling was often pretty bad during his collaborations with
Claremont, since it was obvious that he drew things from awkward, unnecessarily
confusing angles or failed to get on paper what the story was asking for. The
silent issue of X-TREME X-MEN, which included part of Claremont's script, was a
particular illustration of that.

Likewise, Claremont's writing suffered in return, presumably because he couldn't
trust his artist to do his job properly. Which led to even more of the
redundant heaps of text describing what was plain from the pictures.

As much as Kordey's art was butchered in X-TREME X-MEN, and as much as Austen's
writing stinks, both Claremont's and Larroca's output improved considerably with
their new partners.

I thought his storytelling was frequently awful when he was working with
Claremont on XXM, possibly down to translation difficulties, i don't know,
and in turn Claremont ended up having to be over wordy, with a ton of
dialogue boxes and captions to try and explain what was meant to be
happening on page.

If they're doing that, it could be a very good idea. Mind you, I still
won't read the book, but the concept does sound interesting. OTOH, this
is all just conjecture and not necessarily what's actually going to
happen.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
