That was me, I was pointing out that the OUTSIDE surface of the rimwall is
always in shadow and therefore there is no reason to sculpt it, if you are
outside to look at it you know it is a wall, and you need a strong light
source to see it in visible frequencies. The inside of the rimwall should
be pretty well light up, otherwise the spill mountain people would be in the
dark all the time.

Why would the rim wall get no sunlight at all? It would get as much as the
side of your house does at high noon.
The rim wall is described as being the color of the moon. It's gonna show up
pretty well. >> Stay informed about: Rim Transport System |

But the reason they sculpted the scrith was just to form shapes. Maybe there's
a reason to keep scrith a constant thickness. >> Stay informed about: Rim Transport System |

If the walls of your house are perfectly vertical, and the sun is more
than 0.25 degrees south of the zenith point at high noon, then your
north wall will recieve exactly 0 direct sunlight. The outside walls
of the Ringworld have no direct sunlight, for exactly the same reason.
The south wall of such a house would get a small but significant
amount of direct sunlight, and so would the inside walls of the
Ringworld, for the same reason. >> Stay informed about: Rim Transport System |

Economy? Expensive stuff, scrith, I'd imagine. >> Stay informed about: Rim Transport System |

Sorry for the confusion there. *

It would be, in the absence of air scattering or ground reflection of sunlight.
Neither applies to the outside RW rimwall. >> Stay informed about: Rim Transport System |

But we were talking about the INSIDE rimwall, and what it would look like in
the absence of sculpting. >> Stay informed about: Rim Transport System |
