Post subject: Robert Ellis Cahill - New England Histories and Ghost Stories
Archived from groups: alt>books>reviews (more info?)

I read an earlier post or two about Robert Ellis Cahill and the ghost
and haunted tales books from the New England Collectible Classics
series, and wanted to post a bit more information for those
interested.

Robert Ellis Cahill (November 25, 1934 - June 19, 2005) was the author
of more than three dozen books on New England history and lore, as
well as on scuba, shipwrecks and pirates. He is probably most well
known for his ghost and "haunted happenings" books, and they are also
his best-sellers.

Robert Ellis Cahill 's ghost and haunting related books include:

New England Ghostly Haunts
Things that Go Bump in the Night
Haunted Happenings
Haunted Ships of the North Atlantic
Lighthouse Mysteries of the North Atlantic

Robert Cahill 's best-sellers are New England Ghostly Haunts and
Things that Go Bump in the Night, so these are goo straters to be
introduced to his writing or to New England ghost stories in general.
Cahill's ghost books typically will have anywhere from a dozen to a
dozen and a half ghost stories in each volume. Cahill also wrote a
few books on unrelated topic, but perhaps of interest, on New
England's Withces and Wizards and on the "Witch Dungeon" both books
deal in large part with the infamous Witch Trials in Salem, MA of
1692. Cahill was born and raised and lived most of his life in Salem,
MA, and was former Sheriff of Essex County and the Old Salem Jail.

Cahill also authored books on New England pirates and privateers,
shipwrecks off the New England coast, NE Indian Wars, and legends and
lore about local sea monsters and "Mad Mountain Men." A few of his
books deal with little known history and lore related to the American
Revolution.

Robert Cahill also wrote several auto-biographical books, one
recounting his experiences as Sheriff, and another relating tales of
his childhood growing up in New England during World War II. Another,
Diary of the Depths, recounts the adventures of the early days of
scuba diving.

Cahill is also widely published in magazines and newspapers including
Skin Diver and is co-author of a National Geographic book on scuba
diving. He is also featured in a dozen or more Discovery Channel and
History Channel television programs, typically on ghosts or
shipwrecks.

Robert (Bob) Cahill, along with a few colleagues and friends, also
founded the New England Witch Dungeon Museum; the Witch History Museum
and the New England Pirate Museum, all tourist attractions in Salem,
MA that mix history and lore with Disney-like entertainment and
presentations.

You can find more information on Robert Ellis Cahill and his books on
Wikipedia, Amazon.com and the Old Salt Box publishing house website.

Hope you enjoy a good ghost story or two, I certainly did and still
do.
