My understanding is that the original script originally had a
different title and wasn't associated with Asimov's I,Robot. Some
minor rewrites were made after the studio acquired the rights to the
book in order to establish some connection, for the most part name
changes and a mention of the three laws of robotics somewhere. The
story and even the way robots are depicted in the film don't seem to
have anything to do with Asimov's stories or ideas.

I was really angry when I saw the trailers for the I,Robot movie, and
saw the robots attacking the human. I yelled, "that's wrong!" I
immediately remembered that Mister Asimov specificly said that he hated
the "Frankenstein attitude" of most robot stories. He hated the way every
writer of his early days created a robot which then turned against the
creator, killing him.
I got even more angry when I looked at the shelves in my local book
store and saw that they have put the "Will Smith" cover on the "I, Robot"
book. It made me furious to see the bastardization (movie) being tied to
Mister Asimov's excellent book. (Can you imagine someone who wants to read
the book to see what the movie is about, and she opens the book and finds
"Robbie", which has nothing to do with the movie at all.
I'm one of those people who reads novels long before anybody even think
of making them into a movie. I read Jurassic Park and the sequel, "Lost
World" before the movie was created. I was disgusted by the REWRITING they
did to create those travesties, too.
Where do these movie makers get the idea that they can take a book and
rewrite it and make a movie that doesn't look anything like the book and
then they put the same name on the movie. It make me FURIOUS and I won't
ever go see another movie that is supposed to be based on a book, again.
(P.S.: I'll bet these same writers would never change a tiny detail of
a comic book hero's life. Spiderman must be absolutely accurate. Am I
Right?)

Yes, Spidey crouches on the girder's in that one arm out, leaning a bit to
the left pose very nicely in the movie.... The costume also seems to be very
accurate, although I could have lived without the "it rides up in the
crotch" comment in the elevator... Oh, and Doc Ock's arms are indeed very
bendible....

;-P

On the Radio tonight, Matt Drudge said, "I went to see the "I,Robot" movie
today. There was a man talking on his cell phone in the row behind me. I
found his conversation was more interesting than the movie."
