| Just wondering whether the Beats ever had any interest in rockabilly
music.Seems that both movements were at their peak around the 50s but,at
least to my knowledge, there are no signs of influence either way...right?

I don't know of any Beat interest in Rockabilly, but there was a Rockabilly
record about Beatniks -- "Uncle John's Bongos" by Johnnie & Jack, 1961.
(Also covered by Houston Turner, 1961.)

If you're interested in links between rockabilly & countercultures,
check out Patrick B. Mullins, "Hillbilly Hipsters of the 1950s: The
Romance of Rockabilly," _Southern Quarterly_ 22 (Spring 1984): 79-92.
Mullins argues that rockabilly shared many of the values of the beats &
of urban hipster cultures. It's an academic article but very interesting.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: Beats and Rockabilly |

Much later, with Ginsberg and Corso's interaction with Dylan, et al,
but very little seems to have connected the two at the time...
Seems so obvious now, but the Beats were such diehard jazz devotes,
there seems more a connection with the Rat Pack than Rockabilly.

I'd like to look at these links, Cook, but in your current mood,
perhaps at the library. I would assume that you wouldn't send a virus
to all that check these, but who knows?
It might be funny stuff. Perhaps a casual observer will check 'em out
and write a review here..?

Cook had me "blocked" yesterday... is that lifted yet, MC?

I haven't spoken with anyone who's seen it yet, but when I finally see
it, I'll do a writeup on it in my next column. The Tin-Man shots are
finally back, though? Great!
If my memory serves me well, those were the best of the Michael Cook
parodies.

Yeah, right, Cook... this tone from the guy that uses "to" for "too"
*repeatedly*, and uses terms like "barfly's" for "barflies"... perhaps
they're having a 'lil extra chuckle, but it's always amusing from this
"semi", to see a pompous ass like yourself puff.

I did not see any from Georgia; oddly enough I am getting a crap load from
Asia.
Makes one wonder what the Chinese are up to, my guess:
They have stolen the buffoons' drunken exposition and are planning to
unleash it on Taiwan should an insurrection occur there.
That he cannot see it is a plus, as narcissistic as the nut-job is not
seeing his own reflection (so to speak) must be agony.
Hey Doc, you have a dynamically assigned ip number, perhaps it is that 8080
port again?
Or maybe your isp has restricted you because of abuse?
