"Rocky Marciano: Biography Of A First Son" 1st Edition Hardcover Book
I have for sale the out-of-print, 1st edition hardcover book ""Rocky
Marciano: Biography Of A First Son" by Everett M. Skehan (1977). The 1st
edition contains 369 pages including vintage balck and white photographs,
profiling the life and boxing career of World Heavyweight Champion, Rockey
Marciano.
Front Jacket Excerpt:
"Born Rocco Marchegiano in Brockton, Massachusetts, Rocky Marciano became
the world's only undefeated Heavyweight Champion. Never before told,
Rocky's story is one of pride, fear, and gentleness. He was the first-born
son of an exploited shoeworker and a fiercely protective mother, who
insisted that "God does not want Rocky to box." ..Containing some of the
best fight descriptions ever written, this book recounts the savage blows
Rocky landed on Joe Louis, Ezzard Charles, and Jersey Joe Walcott as he
climbed to the top in a violent sport. Later the retired champion is shown
insecure and restless, dining one night with the President, the next with a
Mafia Don, making business deals without lawyers or accountants, and hiding
hundreds of thousands in cash in places yet to be descovered. In 1969,
Rocky Marciano was killed in an Iowa plane crash. Because the sport of
boxing and Rocky himself symbolize the human instinct to survive, endure,
and prevail, Rocky's biography is one of life stripped to its essentials.
Written with the complete cooperation of the family, Rocky Marciano is for
those who honor him as the greatest."
