Wait until you have to deal with (in no particular order):

The U.S. Postal Service
UPS
Fed-Ex
Shitty^WCityLink

....and you'll be glad of the Royal Mail (including Parcelfarce).

I have. I'm STILL officially fed up with Royal Mail, the dubious customer
service policies of those in the snipped list not withstanding.

Someone obviously has to be the sucker, and it's now late enough at
night for me no longer to care...

Why, Paul?

Aww Paul, don't know what has happened (or what hasn't?)
but if you decide to march on them, I will be with you ...Conor
is missing a Birthday card with £10 in, from his Birthday in July.
Something that seems to happen more and more ,,,(stolen mail
that is and NOT Conors Birthdays which tends to happen once
a year or so *g*)

I'm just fed up with them.

Oh, OK. There's the long running saga of them continually delivering post
for another address - same house number, different street/postcode. Last
week (not, it has to be said, the thing that tipped me over the edge) I got
four items of mail, three were for my next door neighbour, the fourth was
for the same house number, different street place. Luckily I caught toe
postie before he ran off.
I got a letter (the latest in a long line) from Royal Mail Customer Service
suggesting that it was human error - I wasn't happy with this (as it was
supposed to be escalated) so I called again - only to be told it couldn'tbe
escalated yet as this was the first time I had called to complain about the
problem - I assured the customer service person that it wasn't and that I
had been calling every fortnight for the last 6 months. A letter to
Postwatch (just as soon as I can find all the relevant reference numbers) is
imminent.
That wasn't what tipped me over the edge. Not even the loss of a parcel
that I had a card in my letterbox for, which couldn't be found when I went
to collect it, and for which no-one at RM will take ANY responsibility (even
when I wrote to the Chairman about it), or the lost birthday card from my
parents in Ireland (which contained £20) did it.
No, what did it is the 'We tried to deliver' card I got on Thursday. I went
with it to the delivery office on Friday, after work, to collect the item
(which was too large to fit into my letterbox). Chap wandered off with my
card, and came back with something that was plainly not too large, but which
was recorded. I signed for it and went home. Upon my return home, I found
anothercard in the letterbox, telling me that there was a recorded deivery
item waiting for me at the delivery office. The number on the card matched
the number on the item I had just collected - which means that the item I
should have been given was still there...
We won't go into the 'why couldn't they have given me both items whilst I
was there?' question. I collected the item I should have been given
yesterday, this morning. I'm happier now, but this is just a classic
example of what has gone so terribly wrong with the postal sevice formerly
known to be reasonably reliable.
</rant>

Beetle, you HAD to ask! Sorry, but it's been one of those weeks.

IKE, Sgt., if either or both of you can find some way of taking over the
postal service I'll turn a blind eye (possibly two!)...

Trebuchets are military devices and fall under the control of the
artillerywigs. The Postal Cannon, being as it is accurate to within a
yard over ranges of several hundred miles, clearly has no possible
military uses and is therefore controlled by the postwigs (several of
whom just happen to be retired artillerywigs, hence the traditional
postwig motto of "could you say that again, more loudly, into my other
ear").

The Postal Cannon is for _post_. Not bombs. As Isambard keeps having to
explain to those pleasant (if large-footed) gentlemen in the
ill-fitting suits...

That _does_ explain the list of stuff that is not allowed to be
sent by mail: it's to prevent accidental violations of Section 5.

(snips entirely justified rant)

And I thought my old address had problems. I used to live in a flat
that was technically on three different streets, and the trouble I
had... (I never got a Census form, for instance, because I knew that
they would never work it out!)

But the whole "take the card to the office and watch them (a) not find
the package, (b) find the wrong package or (c) find the other one you
didn't know about" business? Ho yus.

I speak up reluctantly in defence not of the Snail as a whole but of the
local sorting office in Bristol.

I received an envelope from the Squoire.

When I found that apart from a small hole, it had nothing in it, I rang
the sorting office to ask them whether by any chance they had found
anything on the floor of the office that might have fallen out of my
envelope.

What sort of thing? they asked, not unreasonably.

I have no idea, I replied, but possibly something made of chainmail...

I could hear the sound of anxious enquiry in the background:

'ere Pete, what wozzat you said you found this morning?
I dunno, 'twarn't like anything as *I* ever saw.
Mightita bin chainmail then?
Dunno. Mebbe.

Then they invited me to come and have a look and see whether it might be
the thing they'd found that I had lost. So I went on down, and they
showed it to me, in the middle of the bomb-proof room they keep in case
of suspicious parcels, through the toughened-glass section of the door.
I told them it looked to me like a chainmail dogcollar, and when it was
established that the dogtag on it had "FANG" punched on it, and that I
was able to tell them this before I saw it, they agreed that this was
mine.

They insisted that I had to put it on before I left.
