This reminds me an awful lot of the syllabus to a symbolic and
critical reasoning course I took a number of years ago. Interesting
stuff.

An excellent site re: fallacies in logic.

A great exercise is to discern how many fallacies you can spot in consumer
advertising. Virtually all appeal to authority with spokesman from sports
selling antacids or such.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Having studied the subject in detail, do you find the SJSU oversimplifies? Would it be a good
guide for understanding formal rhetorical labels? Anything you'd recommend more?

Thx,

You cannot reason a person out of a position he did not reason himself
into in the first place.
~ Jonathan Swift

Your faith, and make no mistake - that's what it is, in logic is
quaint but shows a lack of understanding of logic and philosophy,
pychology and science.

No worries. I'm sure you get a lot of pleasure deluding yourselves
that you are more logical and rational, and hence superior beings,
than your opponents.

As if there is one logic. As if logic is applicable to most things.
Even most things in science or law, supposedly the places where logic
reigns supreme.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I am and always will be a sucker for symbolic logic, but that's
probably some sort of hereditary dementia. Actually, the site looks
pretty decent, 'though I only had the chance to skim.

Hmmm... If you actually believe this, doesn't it make you a hypocrite to
supply a line of reasoning for any of your points of view or will you argue
that you do that for the people who want it, but you really don't believe
what you're saying? But again, that is hypocritical...
