Inspired by the movie "THE LONGEST YARD"
(The Real Thing!!)
When the Author Leonard "Oakie" Brumm saw THE LONGEST YARD for the first
time (saw it fourteen more times!) he could relate to each and every convict
in the movie due to his extensive prison experience. The movie inspired
Oakie to write a book abut his experiences titled WE ONLY PLAYED HOME GAMES,
WACKY, RAUNCHY STORIES ABOUT SPORTS & OTHER EVENTS IN MICHIGAN"s MAXIMUM
SECURITY PRISON.
In the early 1950's, Oakie was hired to be the Recreation/Athletic Director
of Michigan's maximum security prison at Marquette. It was a real "super
max" prison, yet Oakie was able to install the most comprehensive and
controversial sports and recreation of any prison EVER.
Mr. Brumm writes of his experiences as the first Sports & Recreation
Director of the Marquette (MI) "Supermax" For
