I have a list of VERY old books that was passed on to me. There ranging from the 1800's to the early 1900. Some of these books are so old I dare not open them because the pages will tear at the slightest touch. Another problem I have is bugs. Silver fish in paticular.
How do you keep old books?
Moore's Poems - Only date found in it is 1800 intact but difficult to open cause of fragile pages.
Byrons Poems The only date I can find was a previous owner wrote "Eella L Parken 1891" but there's an older clam Erin Fordson??? name is a little illegiable to do age. There's more writing that is legible but don't make sence if anyone wants to know I'll list more.
Shakes spears complete works This is a leather bound 1908 better shape.
Red Setter Poems Yet again this is leather bound. I lost count how many times someone has tried to take this book from me. The date of this one is 1885.
Those are my oldest, I am moving so I can't find them all. But I'm worried about there shape that I will not be able to pass them on. There is SO MUCH history written in these pages. It seems like every person who had the book left his or her mark. especially in the book called Faust

.
So if any one anyone at all can tell me how to perserve these
