An elusive title. The Colonial edition in the Canadian casing.
Doyle, A. Conan. THE TRAGEDY OF THE KOROSKO. With Forty Full-Page
Illustrations. London and Bombay, George Bell & Sons, 1898. First
edition, Bell's Indian and Colonial Library. The illustrations are by
S. Paget. Light blue cloth, decorated in black in a flowery art nouveau
style, and printed in gilt, on cover and spine. xii, 333 pp. The verso
of the half-title says - This Edition is issued for circulation in India
and the Colonies only. The Copp, Clark Co., Limited is in gilt on the
spine and The Copp Clark Co. Limited, Toronto is in black on the front
cover. There were 12,500 copies in the Colonial edition, of which an
unknown number were bound in Canada. Green & Gibson A22b. The book was
printed by Ballantyne, Hanson & Co., Edinburgh & London.
Moderate wear, mostly at the corners and spine ends, but no tears.
There is light soiling/darkening of the covers. The edges have
uniformly darkened. Moderate spine lean. There is a small amount of
foxing on the lower outside corner of the first six leaves, none
elsewhere. The front free endpaper has a dog-eared corner. The plates
are all present. This is close to being a very good copy.
