Seabirds
Their Biology and Ecology
by Bryan Nelson
Seabirds are a fascinating and diverse group ranging from the large Emperor
and King Penguins of the antarctic to the delicate noddies and Fairy Terns
of the tropics. In this text Nelson aims to introduce both the interested
birdwatcher and the serious student to the study of this group of birds. The
approach is comparative and shows the diverse ways in which seabirds have
evolved to make full use of their ocean environment. The book begins with an
introduction to the various seabird families, followed by a résumé of the
world's oceans and the food and feeding habits of the birds. There are also
chapters on breeding behavior, breeding biology, migration, populations and
relationship with man. Illustrated with 36 color photos, 40 B&W photos, and
60 maps, diagrams and drawings.
