Hi, everyone:
I'm searching for the title of a book I had as a boy. I can't remember
the title of it.
The book came out around 1976, just in time for the Bicentennial
celebration. It was an illustrated children's book, an "early reader"
book, that told a story about the Declaration of Independence.
The story took place in Philadelphia in 1776. The main character was
the five-year-old grandson of Andrew McNair, the real-life custodian
at the Pennsylvania State House (now Independence Hall).
The story took place just after the Declaration had been approved by
the Continental Congress. The Grandson visited the John Dunlap
printers shop where Dunlap and his printers were printing copies of
the Declaration for the general public.
On July 8, 1776, the Declaration is read for the first time on the
steps of Independence Hall by Col. John Nixon. The Grandson waits at
the bottom of a staircase for Nixon to appear. When Nixon arrives, the
Grandson runs up the stairs as fast as he can to tell Grandfather
McNair it's time to ring the statehouse bell (the Liberty Bell) to
announce the reading.
I'm trying to find a copy of this old book. Anyone know what the title
is or where I could find a copy? >> Stay informed about: Searching for childrens book about the Declaration of Inde.. |
