That's not too bad. At least it would make her codename meaningful.

That was one disappointment I had with X-MEN: Evolution, Kitty started
out with the ShadowCat name....which is kind neither here nor there
with significance without the transition she underwent in Kitty Pryde
and Wolverine miniseries..and even then it is kind of a generic almost
kewl name.
The character on Evolution is pure Kitty as SPRITE, would have been
neat to see them use that codename instead.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I actually have the same problem with Kitty in Ultimate X-Men. Of
course, I have lots of other problems with that book - such as
introducing every mutant who ever appeared in the last 40 years in the
space of just a couple years for no apparent reason. It's not like they
were really used, and there's no reason to put them in the book if the
writer doesn't intend to do something with them.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I see that as them creating the "crowded school" backdrop environment
(like in the movie or Morrison;s NXM) but instead of using nameless
generic characters, they are using characters we know from the regular
universe.
I'm hoping for a Legion-like rotating spotlight for characters to come
into play as mandated by a particular story.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I rather see them based together as 1 team instead of roatating them!

The problem is, I don't see that happening. Worse, most of them got the
generic "I work for Magneto" background, meaning that you can't
introduce them on a blank slate.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
