Hello newsgroup
Has anyone else been disapponted by screen adaptations of short stories like
The Running Man? The necessity for happy endings so often spoils the effect
of moving, highly effective outcomes.
Would like to hear your views

VERY disappointed.

Would like to see Darabont (sp?) maybe do another adaptation of The
Running Man. I hate it when good stories become vehicles for action
stars. I will probably wait for "I Am Legend" to come out on video and I
will see it that way, but I can tell from the trailers that they have
made huge deviations from the source material.

This "I Am Legend" is based upon Richard Matheson's 1954 novel...so I've
heard.

The earlier movies allegedly were, too, but deviations were made. I'd
love to see "I Am Legend" done true to the story. I'll likely wait on
this one.

The Running Man was no more based on the story than The Lawnmower Man was
!!!

(Well... not QUITE as bad.. but bad!)

The Night Flier wasn't too bad.

Funny you should say that, because both 1408 and the Mist (movies) have
really unhappy endings that are both much more downbeat than in the stories.
