I have a copy of John Joseph Matthews' book "Life and Death of an Oilman,"
it's signed and dated, but there's no dust jacket. Is there a rule of thumb
for how to value a book like this? Normally without the jacket it would be
good only as a reading copy, but it is signed too. Is there an agreed upon
standard percentage to deduct?

Thank you.

Mark.

Why not find an inexpensive copy with a dustjacket so you can add a dj to
the signed copy?

cheers ~

Which brings up a question that probably has already been discussed in this
forum...but my archive search could not bring up the thread:

If you do "marry" a jacket to another book, (making sure that the jacket issue
and the book issue match) ...should the marriage be part of the book's
description?

Thanks in advance for any advice (or directions on how to dig up the
information from this groups archives....)

I assume your search started from
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=rec.collecting.book" target="_blank">http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&group=rec.collecting.book</a>
s and you clicked on the "Search only in rec.collecting.books" option?

From there on in it's all up to what you type in the search field. I just
typed "dust jacket" and then selected the "Sorted by date" option, since the
thread was fairly recent. I came up on the second page of results.

Here it is: <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://tinyurl.com/gxte." target="_blank">http://tinyurl.com/gxte.</a> It's really a development of a
discussion that began in another thread (http://tinyurl.com/gxtk).
