In TEH SILVER CHAIR, I've always thoguth the part about the prince asking
to be tied in the chair during his 'madness' sounded like some motif from
older stories. Any thoughts?

Well, Odysseus had himself tied up to prevent him from leaping
overboard at the siren's call.

The Prince was already under a spell, if I remember correctly, Odysseus
was merely indulging his curiosity regarding the Siren Song...something
which under other circumstances could have been lethal. Part of the
spell on the Prince made him sit down calmly and be tied during his
"fit" until it was passed. The horrible thing was that it was the only
time he was in his right mind.

Thats good though. I can't think of anything else that fits.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Why did the spell wear off every day and have to be renewed by the Silver
Chair?
