Just a few minutes before the White Witch and Edmund depart her castle
in pursuit of Peter et al, she has Tumnus led out the dudgeon he shared
with Edmund. She then brings Edmund to the courtyard where he sees the
statue of Tumnus, with snow already on it. She and Edmund then depart
the castle into a sunny day. How did the statue of Tumnus get snow on
it in just a few minutes on a sunny day?

Then why didn't any snow appear when the White Witch stoned Mr. Fox or the
butterfly or members of Peter's army during the battle?

Why would the stoning magic create snow on its victims?

I did not see a huge pile of snow around Tumnus.

Why would the White Witch go to the trouble of burying Tumnus with snow when
she planned to leave shortly to pursue Peter et al?

No, I mean the stoning magic works so.

How about, the sun melting the snow was an effect of the breakup of the
WW's effect on Narnia? "Always winter, and never Christmas."

I assumed that the snow melting was just a result of the temperate suddenly
rising to summertime levels when the freeze spell broke.

In the book Lewis drove this point home by having a passage where the WW
insists on driving her sliegh, although the snow is rapidly disappearing.

Is this portrayed in the movie, or is the snow vanishing from Tumnus
(appropriate touch, that) the only indication that the Century of Winter is
quickly coming to a close? Showing this happening in various places would
be one of the areas in which a film can be so much more effective than a
narrative...
