It makes me wonder who actually buys from dealers on Addall. There is a copy
of Friedrich Nietzsche - The Dionysian Spirit of the Age by A.R. Orage up
for over £100 on Addall. On ebay the guy is selling it for £7.50 and might
make £15.00 if his lucky. I have three copies of the same book and would
expect no more than the ebay seller. Do these dealers on Addall ever get the
sale, or is it just for show?

Hi Diane,

Addall is not a listing service. It is a search service and
it lists the 15 or so listing services that it searches. So
don't blame Addall. As to the listing services, some of
them have imposed minimum value requirements, e.g., you
cannot list books having less than an aggregate value of,
say, $30,000, if I remember what one of them said last year
when I looked. So, some people cheat. They list 300 books,
for instance, at $100 each and they meet the requirement.
Besides, when the eBay bargain (?) copy is purchased, what
will be the remaining market?

Yoy don't say what listing service has it. If it is one of the
olderones it could be an ancient listing. Where I work if we can't
find a
comprable we guess insanely high. You never know you might get it and
you can always mark it down later.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Heh, then another flea market picker as cluefree as some folks where
you work comes along and says "Golly Gee, Myrtle, that book on
techniuwupicul morphophographics we got at the thrift store for a buck
is going for $300 on the Internet! Mine only got some of that yellow
marks on the page, so I'll make mine $260 and somebody will snap it up
in a flash".

Lather, rinse and repeat until half.com / Amazon copies are down to
$0.03.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

So they just think of a figure and double it. Very scientific. I have a
similar policy, I think of a figure and halve it. Works for me.

it may work, but it's also insanely foolish...

This title is listed in Ahearn for $125 in the year 2000 and credited
as the author's first book under his name.

The longer I'm in the trade the less I worry about people who charge a
lot of money for their books. Nobody that I know has got nearly as
rich in books as they would have in real estate. And many, but not
all books that seem overpriced now look like bargains 10 years down
the line...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Proving yet again (and this is remarkably consistent) the best thing
to do with any suggested price you see in an Ahearn guide is divide it
by three.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Nice that you've found the guide to be consistent, if inflated for your market.
