I know this was in an Asimov-related publication, but, it may have been
a collection of stories from Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction magazine,
and not actually written by Asimov himself.
The story is really very short.
It begins with a quick review of what the man in this story has had to
go through, being a superintendent of schools, being a principle, etc.
We are lead to believe that he is a most remarkable individual in his
capabilities and that he is about to be promoted to the most important
job in his field.
The story ends as he walks into his new "office" and says something
like "Good morning class" -or maybe he walks in and the classroom
students say "Good Morning, Teacher!"
Typical Asimovian. Great twist on the ending. And a terrific story to
give to staff at a high school.
I would really love to get my hands on it again.
I did manage to find the anthology it was in sometime in the past,
after 1996, from the vancouver public library. But I can't seem to
even figure out which book this story is in anymore. Have done lots of
searching with google.
Over to you in the newsgroup.
Thanks in advance.
