Some nun. Apparently the book is unpublished.

Assuming you mean "The Problem of Susan", it's collected in _The Year's
Best Fantasy 5_, edited by David G. Hartwell and Kathryn Cramer.
Alternatively, I believe there's meant to be another collection of
Neil Gaiman's short fiction out next year, and it'll probably be
included there.

Elsethread someone quoted a poem about Susan at the funeral; I
tried to go back and find it, and I cannot. Do you remember
who posted it?

At the moment, I think it works out to be 95 years from the date of
publication, or about 2051 for _The Last Battle_. (For a newer work, it
would be life of the author plus 70 years.)

Of course, if Disney, et al, have their way, this term will continue to
extend indefinitely.

Why? Wouldn't Disney like to be free of the need to pay royalties to the
Lewis estate?

He wrote Narnia novels after the Mouse, so his copyright will never
expire.

What does a Talking Mouse have to do with the copyright?

It's simple: Susan just had other contractual obligations and couldn't
make it to Narnia for the Last Battle. Lewis did write an early draft
in which Peter, Lucy and Edmund get a new sister named Sylvia, but
apparently Sylvia didn't work well with animals and had to be dropped.

Yes, I'm making that assumption, and in the case of unabashed fan fiction,
I think it's a valid one. Fan fiction authors and work-for-hire authors
are, ISTM, on opposite ends of the motivational spectrum (even if they're
the same person on different days), and if the Lewis Estate wants semi-pro
Narnia fanfic being published, I don't think they are likely to have much
success with the work-for-hire route.

They could get a different flavor of Narnia spinoff that way, but I don't
think that's what we were talking about. Possibly the discussion was
broader than I gave it credit for.

Probably the discussion is moot on account of the Lewis estate doesn't
want any sort of post-Lewis Narnia fiction published.

As an expert in magical universes, could you comment on what magic spells the

They're flogging ice blocks to Calormen in return for imported
foodstuffs. I mean did you see =any= Narnia countryside which looked
appropriate for growing tea??
