Today 12/6/2007

Hi all,
Well, we HAD a great week going -- 8 hours of weaning (independent
breathing) on Monday, 9 on Tuesday and 10 yesterday. Then everyrthing
fell apart today. She did 5.5 hours...that wasn't the problem because
the doctor only had 6 h ours ordered and this respiratory therapist
wouldn't exceed the orders and just stopped early because she was
coughing. The problem is that she has diarrhea, lowgrade fever, and a
low blood pressure. I thought first the diarrhea might be a reaction
to the new pain and/or psych meds (I looked online and 3 of the 4 list
that as a side-effect) so I got 2 of them changed. But the fever makes
it look like infection. Although one nurse said that dehydration from
diarrhea could cause fever and low blood pressure. Anyway, to be on
the safe side they put her back in ICU. Of course, the good side of
that (if there is one) is that they can't discharge her to the nursing
home from ICU. But I hate having her back in ICU!
So pray it's nothing serious and we get her out of ICU fast even
if it means going to the nursing home.
Thanks!
Susan
