I apologize. I emailed a lot of you and I guess in my joy over the
miracle and all the stress of wondering how well things would come out
and calling all t he relatives, I neglected to post here. Julianne
reminded me in an email. I can get email on my cell phone and finally
figured out how to answer on the phone but it takes forever and I can
only type shor t messages because it's so darn slow. Yes, me writing
short...will wonders never cease?
But thanks to all the prayers and candles we are experiencing a
miracle!
First of all, mom came out of the coma! Hallelujah! She did not have
a brain-stem stroke as first thought but a left-brain stroke, which is
more treatable. She has some paralysis on the right side and speech
and language impairment. She's moving both her right and right leg.
The big concern now is breathing because she has pneumonia and had
COPD (Chronic Obstructrive Pulmonary Disease...in her case Asthmatic
Bronchitis) before the stroke. She's off the ventilator and we're
praying she stays off it. They can't do the speech and swallowing
evaluation until her breathing is more stabilized, so we don't know
the specifics on that, yet. She's trying to talk and very frustrated
that we don't know what she's saying much of the time. She
understands us, though and communicates with hand squeezes and nods
and blinks.
Thanks for all the prayers. Please keep them coming! Again, I
apologize for not posting sooner. Mea culpa!
Take care,
Susan
