Hi all,
Well, it seems mom has a bleeding ulcer. Apparently this is
relatively common in patients who are on a feed tube and a vent for a
long time. Plus they evidently stopped giving her the Protonix a couple
weeks for some reason. Anyway, she was prone to acid anyway because
she always on Prilosec for gastric reflux problems.
So they're giving her large doses of Protonix to stop the
stomach acid and they've stopped all the blood thinners. Obviously
anyone on blood thinners bleeds tremendously from any little thing.
The bleeding has stopped, which is a step in the right direction. Her
white count is down in the normal range and lower than it's been in
weeks (7.7) so it sounds like she's finally licked all the infections.
So hopefully we're on the mend. She's been having problems with low
hemoglobin for a while now, so maybe this will lead to finding the
source of that and solving it for once and for all.
She's very determined to get well and she's certainly a fighter.
Please keep the prayers coming!
Thanks!
