Hi Friends,
The good news is that mom is doing wonderfully
well. Yesterday she did really well on four hours of
CPAP (breathing on her own). She's talking
intelligently during speech therapy (made it clear she
understands the vent and the CPAP tests) and sent
greetings to most of her friends (including you,
Barb). She's using her right arm very well and can
reach her face with her hand to rub her eyes and do
wash her face with it. She's moving her leg some too.
Definite progress there.
Alas, Dad's progress is not so good. They're now
saying he has a fungal infection in the blood and in
the fluid around the right lung where they put the
lung drain the other day. He still has some other
infectin though. On the plus side, he is taking the
tube feeds and the ileus is gone, but he's passing
them through very slowly (except when given
laxatives...then he gets diarrhea). He has been more
awake and alert the last three days, though. I don't
know what to think about him. They changed all the
antibiotics added an antifungal yesterday so we should
see some improvement in the next few days to a week.
Let's just keep praying.
As for me, I've taken two weeks of FMLA Leave... I
couldn't start school today with dad in such a
precarious position. Hopefully things will be better
in two weeks. I can extend the leave if necessary or,
hopefully, take intermittant leave, and take days as
needed.
Thanks!
Susan
