"Secret Societies" both religious and mundane have existed for a very
long time. The ones in existance today, while not "secret" by the
common definition of the word, are still "secret" in that only their
initiated members know the inner workings. To mention just a few that
have existed or currently exist:
The Freemasons
The Theosophical Society
The Knights Templar (both past and the new KT)
The Illuminati
The Rosicrucians
The Order of Luxor
The Golden Dawn
The Argentum Astrum
The Servants of the Light
The Society of the Inner Light
The Ordo Templi Orientis
The list goes on and on. Some were mundane, for instance, The
Illuminati was created in the 18th century in Bavaria for the sole
purpose of overthrowing the monarchy systems that existed and replace
them with democratic systems. The Illuminati didn't last long because
it's founders got found out and were tried and executed for treason.
The Freemasons are both mundane and religious, as were/are the Knights
Templar. The Rosicrucians and all the others are religous but not in
the common sense, they are very involved in mysticism and the
development of human potential...some would say that they do make a
study of the paranormal in conjunction with the development of a human
being's potential.
There are also groups all over the internet that investigate
paranormal phenomenon. Some are independent groups and others are
connected to universities and research organizations. However, I
highly doubt that a true Talamasca-like organization exists. If it did
it would be cutting-edge and we would have heard about them,
especially, through those people and organizations involved with
paranormal research.
BTW, it is in Queen that we first hear about the Talamasca.
Take care,
Ashe

Thanks for answering. I hated that I posted this. No offense to you because you
didn't start this, but I hate when people get really off topic with out
answering the topic at hand like bazer. I mean what does, "I think it was QOTD

think so and would like see there records." have to do with anything I wrote,
huh? You call tell this board is deseperate. Second, I think if someone is
going to do something like that, they should change the title of the post. By
the way, to answer the idiot's question. I was NOT talking about Baby Jenkins
or Jesse. Maybe you need to learn to read better. Second, I don't know if there
is one, but people like you are reason it would be secret. They keep it secret
so morons like you can't ever join or know about it. My advice to you, is to
learn to read better and respect people. This SO reminds me of the time I asked
who the unamed vampire was in IWTV, the one Lestat thinks would make a better
vampire than Claudia, and the all the SMART people (NOT!) answered Nicholas!

Whoa ... you asked when we find out about the talamasca, and bazer said we
find out about the talamasca in QOD, more specifically when we read about
certain characters. How does that not have anything to do with what you
wrote?
I think you seriously misinterpreted bazer's post ... and then of course
criticized them for not reading. And all this is after you were too lazy to
pick up the two books and spend a few minutes looking through them yourself
.... I hope you can tell me that's only cause you don't have them.
I don't see how a further talamasca question is "really off topic." It's a
natural enough progression. And I don't think that this group is so busy
that we need subject line changes all the time so we know what to read and
what to skip. That is, of course, the main point of a subject line ... and
your own is not particularly clear to begin with. "TVL or QOD"? Gee, that
really narrows it down.

please.

I think you're a hypocrite. I mean I can't critize anyone, correct? Yet, you
can? I just think you didn't understand what post, either and are sticking up
for bazer.

It was off topic, because I really wasn't talking about the talamasca. I was
asking about what book it was in. That post almost had nothing to do with mine.
It was more of a do you believe in it post? So, I believe since it was off
topic from my original post which listed two book titles in it, because I was
talking about two books, that the title line should have been changed. Yes,
actually, my subject line does narrow it down. I said the titles of the two
books, because the question I was asking was about those two books.

Nothing. I didn't say bazer's answer was completely correct, just that they
were answering your question. Baby Jenks was a detail that happened to be
wrong. A wrong detail doesn't mean that the post has nothing to do with your
question. The QOD bit was right, and when someone else said the same thing
you thanked them. Do you normally attack people who try to answer you but
aren't completely correct? I suggest that in the future, you find your
answers to your questions yourself, cause there are gigantic amounts of
people out there with even more false/incomplete/irrelevant info, and you
clearly can't handle that.

Did I say you couldn't criticize people? No, I only explained that in that
case your criticism was baseless and hypocritical. And funny, here it is
again.
But criticize all you want anyway, you're in a free country.
I didn't understand what post??

Naah, your question was about when we first find out about the Talamasca,
and "TVL or QOD" is where you thought the answer would be. Who would guess
from reading that subject line what you really wanted to know? You could
have been discussing which book you prefer, asking which was written first,
which one Jesse first appears in, etc. "The Talamasca" is a much narrower
topic and would have made a better subject line. Look at the post on Mael
.... the poster wanted to know where Mael is written about, so instead of
listing a range of possible answers in the subject line, they focused a
little more and wrote "Mael."
If it's so important to you for a subject line to accurately reflect the
contents of the message, why didn't you change it on your last posts to me
and to bazer? Anyone who clicked on them expecting a discussion on TVL or
QOD would be sorely disappointed.
The fact is, message board/newsgroup/mailing list posts routinely go off
topic, so just try to expect it and appreciate it.

This is really what it boils down to. I didn't have a problem with it being off
topic, I had a problem that he disreguarded my question to make it off topic,
and didn't even change the subject line. I could also critize you for the same.
You're not discussing TVL or QOTD and yet you use the same subject line. Well,
I only wanted to know what book it was in, and nothing truly about the
talamasca. So, TVL or QOTD was a fair subject line. I think you are a
hypocrite. For you drone on and on about me critizing Bazer, you are you are
critizing me yourself. Then, you tell me I shouldn't, then I have every right
to. Well, which is?

Oh yes, let me take the time to reread a book just because I want to know an
answer to a question that won't help me at any time in real life. Yes, let me
waste my time when I can just ask the board. Oh, stupid me, right? My lord,

Again ... bazer did not disregard your question and I can't imagine why you
insist that they did. I'ts quite simple: they answered your question just
like Ashe, added a detail which was wrong, and asked another related
question. Why are you all off your rocker over this?
Sure I didn't change the subject line either, but I was not the one who said
it was important - rather, I said it wasn't. Therefore, I'm not being a
hypocrite, I'm being consistent. You said it was important, yet you did not
change it, so you are being a hypocrite. Get it?
Again ... your original question is most simply expressed as "where we find
out about the Talamasca?", and "TVL or QOD" is the range of answers. It
makes much more sense to refer to your question in the subject line than the
answer, especially in this case when "Talamasca" is a much narrower subject
than "TVL or QOD." "Anne Rice books" would also have been an accurate
subject line since you were asking about something within one of them, but
can you see why it's not the best choice? It's for the same reason that "TVL
or QOD" isn't, though to a greater degree.
We're both allowed to criticize people. You can criticize bazer and me and I
can criticize you. As I said already. There's nothing hypocritical when I
criticize you because I am not attacking the fact that you criticized
someone - I'm attacking the content of your criticism. Can you make the
distinction? Too subtle for Ms. Smarter-Than-You'll-Ever-Hope-To-Be? Maybe
save these messages and try reading through again when you're older.

I just have to ask,
Was your original question in earnest, and you just happened to jump one
someone who happened to expand too much on the subject at hand (the
long-winded answer was to someone else, not YOU, by the way), or were you
just trolling for someone to use your new putdowns on? To be honest, it
looks like the latter to me and obviously a couple others who have so far
replied to this thread.
As to the irony (sad, sad irony) that in a literary fan group you would
insist that you shouldn't be expected to actually read the books at all to
find information ...
I don't mean to get involved, nor to criticize you unduly, but that last
remark drove me to it.

of a reply you'll send. Maybe yoiu should get a life and stop being a
hyprocrite, and the topic must be important to you if you MUST write back to my
posts. That is stupid, and my time is worth something so I am going to move on.

if you so wish.
