Sasha slips in and puts a plate of fudge on the table.
"How's everyone been? Life has been hectic here. My daughter has been
playing tball (1 more game to go), My oldest just moved up to boy scouts
from cub. They expect a lot more from him. My 3rd just turned 6 and is
ready to start cub scouts soon. and the baby is 15 mos., as big as the
other 3 were at 2 yrs (27 lbs. and 34 in.). and into everything. He is more
stubbrn than his father even.
I saw Tris got his cast off finally. YAY! It's been so quiet here that I
figured I'd bait my post with fudge to draw out the lurkers.

Beginner's baseball - the ball is not pitched to the batter, instead
it rests on a "T" shaped stand so the beginner batter can bash it
better. Here's a photo from Manchester UK: http://tinyurl.com/yznqcg

A quick quasi-hemi-demi-pedantic note. The name tball (or t-ball or tee
ball) doesn't come the shape of the stand, it's because the stand is a
'tee', like a golf tee, from which to hit the ball. In the photo link
above, you can see that the 'tee' is two sleeved tubes, so you can adjust
the height to fit the batter. The tubes are hard rubber, and are flexible.
Since I'm being a quasi-hemi-demi-pedant, the word 'tee' in tee ball, and
in the 'kicking tee' in (US) football, derives from function similarity to
the golf tee. The word 'tee' in golf predates the golf tee, going back to
when golf balls were set up on a small mound of sand, carried by the golfer
in a 'tee box' for that purpose, to hit the 'tee shot'. According to OED,
it derives from the gaelic word 'tigh' (house). Go figure.

Aren't older houses fun? We have an outlet upstairs (a fancy GFCI one
with a reset button) that turns itself off periodically for no reason at
all. Of course, our network printer is connected to it, so I keep having
to run upstairs to restart it. And then there are the light switches in
the living room--neither one works unless another switch in a different
room is already on...

Gosh. Wish they'd had that in school when I was a kid. Maybe I
might have hit a baseball. Would have been nice to do that, once.

We've been dealing with vehicles here. Hubby's car is down completely
(luckily it is only a 1.5 miles to where they park the company vehicles) and
we had the van in for AC repair estimate today. We have no AC this summer.

Not really, I just get around him. For all his stubbornness, his is still
15 mo. I can usually distract him with outside or an older sibling. Or
just pick him up and move him. Food is a really good distractor.

This is through Little League, tball is for the youngest group, usually 5-6,
although my daughter is 7, they let her play tball because she had very
little experience with baseball. She will move up to coach/machine pitch
next year. She is really having fun with it though and she likes her
coaches (always useful).

Slight surges in power "pull" probably trip your GFCI. They're
reasonably sensitive, since I believe their main purpose is to
protect humans, and it doesn't take too much power to make a
human being pretty unhappy.
There is one (and only one) outlet in my house *not* on a GFCI
circuit, and that is the circuit my fridge is on. The fridge
pulls enough power make it likely it would trip the GFCI, if
there were one. According to the electrician, as vaguely
remembered from a discussion a year ago. :>
I feel your pain about your light switches. I'm still trying to
figure out why one switch by my front door turns on the kitchen
ceiling fan.

Oddly, no. At least, not explicitly, as far as I know. (There
is a strong expectation, of course.) But there are a limited
number of "sticks" one can use to make sure students who don't
attend lecture/ read textbook find some motivation.

Ouch! And you have kids, who will maximize the "fun" of no AC by
telling you, many times daily, that it is hot.
Of course, kids don't seem to feel heat the way adults do. I've
seen kids running around, shrieking happily on a lawn, on days
when I feel boiled enough to want to hide somewhere dark and quiet.

Kids having fun and liking their coaches is pretty much all that
matters in sports at that age.
Well, or any age, IMHO.

The joys of home ownership. You should ask Mummy Az about home grown

At least May is the right time to discover the problem. You shouldn't
need either the AC or heat for a while.

You'd think that, wouldn't you? Too bad no one told mother nature. *G*
Sun-Today it was 90F+, same with last weekend. Since Megan is more
inland, it was probably hotter there. The weekend before THAT it was
cold and rainy. California isn't having much of its usual moderate
weather this spring- it's either hot or cold. I assume that's how she
discovered that the AC is shot.

I've read enough of Mummy's home wiring horror tales that I
called in a professional electrician the first week I owned my
house! Well, her horror tales, plus seeing a few electronics
things that a prior owner had plainly Done Wrong.
Prior to this week's AC/heating bill, that electrician had been
my most expensive single repair/upgrade in the house.
Quick repair, even if pricey. They're all done save for
installing a properly sized vent grate over the new return air
flow hole in my hallway ceiling (so it will look puuuuurty) and
having a county inspector come out and do a "duct test". Testing
to make sure the ducts are properly sealed, for energy
efficiency, I believe.
> At least May is the right time to discover the problem. You

That is why I called for a plain ol' inspection, last week. (The
inspection, needless to say, did not go well.) I figured it
would be their quiet time. I figured right, which is why my
repair has been completed so rapidly.

A whole house, all-in-one heating and cooling unit. So, yes, a
little larger than the one-room units I've seen. :>
Getting the whole unit up and over the house without touching
house, or tree in yard, or anything, requires a long crane arm,
since the unit was installed on the side of my house that faces
away from the road where the crane was parked. Swing-y, swing-y,
whee!

Ah, well. I didn't want a career as a professional baseball
player anyway.

Fortunately, I'm one of the world's more tightfisted people when
it comes to using up power, so I haven't turned on either the
heat or the AC since winter ended.
Silly me, I actually phoned up for an inspection. The housing
inspector noted that the unit looked a trifle aged, before I
bought the house, but it was functioning. So I should get it
inspected, at my leisure. My leisure was now. Whoops.
