Once, a long time ago, Mr. Grisham came to Blytheville, AR to sign this
book. He had a box of them in his car. I got two of them, one that night,
when he inscribed a copy to me, and a few months later when I bought one
he'd signed for store stock.
When he came back for The Firm, before it became a bestseller and hit movie,
I talked to him about ATTK. He indicated there were approx 10k copies of
this edition, but a large number of them had been pulped when returned.
So, unless the now defunct Wynwood Press kept records that haven't been
destroyed of the number of returns, we really don't have any idea how many
survived.
Over the years, as he has returned to Blytheville, several people have
brought copies to his signings and he has all but outrightly refused to sign
them, saying they are more valuable without his signature. I doubt this,
but there is only one on ABE that I could find and the seller is asking
$4250.00.
Since it's the only one on ABE, that price, IMHO, isn't necessarily what the
book is worth. I only got $2700.00 for the non-inscribed one of mine...
