In the episode (during Season 1) where the lost Babylon 4 turns up, Sinclair
and Garibaldi encounter an alien on board it who is serving "the One". This
alien, who is called Zathras, speaks in a quite Gollumish way, though
without the hissing and golluming noises. He makes a lot of smacking sounds
instead. Also, he is not evil. Even so, a favourite phrase of his seems to
be "No one listens to poor Zathars", which I do think is reminiscent of
Gollum's manner of speech.

Just wait until Zathras (note the difference in pronunciation) shows up in
season 4 Smile

True, but in this case, JMS says that Zathras' speech patterns are based
on those of his grandmother, an immigrant from Belarus who never learned
English very well.

Aahhh! You have to rub it in, don't you? I'm still waiting for the DVDs with
Seasons 3-5.
What do you mean with "difference in pronunciation", by the way? I did
spell the name Zathras right the first time, if that's what you are
referring to.

She used to say: "No one listens to poor Olga"? Oh, dear.

P. S. I just wanted to mention what a fanatstic piece of satire that book
is. What is a bit frightening, though, is that much of it is simply
quotations from various postmodernist writers - stuff that simply can't be
outpoohed.

He reminded me more of Lloyd Alexander's Gurgi, somehow.

Yes, you did spell it correctly. Wait until you've seen the episode, then
you'll understand the joke. Telling you anything else now would spoil the
fun for you Smile

Yes. Sorry, Öjevind - it was cruel of me.

Me too. But then, Gurgi reminded me of Gollum at first.
